(Sorry this is such a short chapter. The اگلے one is going to be far longer. BTW, the romance starts soon enough.)
3 days after that fateful flight where Scar and I became one, I decided to ask her to اقدام in with me. I had been arguing with myself the whole three days about it and I couldn't get her out of my mind.
"Hey, babe."
"What's up, Colby?" she said.
"I've got some good news," I کہا happily.
"You're not coming up here, are you?" she said, sounding a bit worried. Her تبصرہ was surprising.
"I wasn't planning to til later, why?" I کہا slowly.
"Oh whew," she said. "I just got back from a hunt with Hutch and Claw and I look hideous." She laughed.
"Babe, you'll always be beautiful no matter what آپ look like," I کہا sincerely.
"Aw!" she said. "Thanks, baby."
I smiled.
"Anyway, what was the good news that آپ wanted to tell me?" she asked.
"Actually, it's مزید of a question," I said, beating around the bush. I had suddenly gotten cold feet.
"Well, go for it."
"Um... I was hoping that... If آپ want to, that is... If آپ would come down here and اقدام in with me?"
The inquiry was met with stunned silence. I felt so embarrassed. "If آپ don't want to, that's fine. I was-"
"Colby."
"-just wondering. I mean, I really like you-
"Colby..."
"-and-"
"Colby!"
I stopped rambling.
"I would love to," she said.
I was happy, but a little skeptical too.
"Are آپ sure?" I asked.
"Shut up," she said.
I did.
"Don't try to figure out why I do what I do, okay? I کہا yes because I want to, not for any other reason."
Her proclamation sent a tingle of something unidentifiable up through my chest.
"Alright, baby. When should I come get you?" I asked.
"Whenever's good. But before we leave, I want آپ to talk to my parents. I told them about آپ and how good آپ are to me. They love the sound of you, but they want to actually meet you."
"I'm on board with that," I said. "I'll leave right now. But I won't be in a truck like last time."
"What will آپ be in?" she asked.
"How do آپ feel about helicopters?"
"They're loud," she answered.
"Indeed," I agreed.
We hung up the conversation after a few مزید minutes, most of which involved times and stuff like that. I made some space in the master bedroom for her stuff, realized she was a wolf, didn't care, kept the space open, then went out to the helipad, where I kept a MD500 light rotorcraft. Since Jasper Park was about 300 miles from where I lived, which was in Kettle Falls, Washington, I figured I could fly up on one tank, refuel, then fly back. (A/N: My career is that I'm an F-22 pilot in the USAF which means that most of these might have some element of aviation to them.)
The helicopter started smoothly and I lifted off and set my course due north, bound for Jasper and for love.
