Aren't those guys supposed to be smart?

In season four, episode 22 ( Double Death of the Dearly Departed), in the beginning: Hodgins کہا deadguy ownes him 20 $. سیکنڈ after, Booth says deadguy ownes him 20 $. Can't Hodgins just give them to Booth?
