I like the idea of Whipstaff Manor, as well as how legends about it have sprung up many times over the years from the stories people would tell each other about it (which would be some time before Kat and her father moved in). This also possibly explains why Kat’s classmates suddenly go from hostile and derisive towards her to shocked when she mentions the manor; they’ve heard of its reputation for being a haunted mansion.
