I’ve read good deal of activity on various boards about how Elena Gilbert is ‘perfect’ for Damon Salvatore. I think it may be time for some hard truths.
Elena does not appeal to Damon’s better angels, as much as she would like to believe. She is able to manipulate him (consciously یا unconsciously-the jury’s still out for me) using the currency of her face, which is a carbon-copy of the woman he ‘loved’ for 145 years.
Elena has let him get away with too much. And آپ KNOW that آپ can’t respect someone who آپ can walk all over. It’s obvious he has no respect for you. Case(s) in point:
-Damon abused Caroline. Heinously. It took Elena how long to get over it?
-Damon ate, terrorized, killed then turned a lifelong member of Mystic Falls-Vicky Donovan.
-Were Damon’s actions totally altruistic, her would’ve clued Elena in to her resemblance to Katherine, whereby saving her the trouble of having slept with Stefan and then finding out after she and Stefan closed the deal.
-Damon tore out her other bff’s throat before her very eyes. Now, granted he thought Bonnie was someone else, but DAMN!
-Damon threatened to kill then turn Elena against her will.
-Damon was at least tangentially instrumental in the death of Bonnie’s grandmother.
-Damon physically pushed himself on Elena, trying to get from her what he couldn’t from Katherine, despite her protests. Had Jeremy not showed up to inquire ‘what the what?!’ and this were HBO and not The CW, I’m almost certain he would’ve forced himself on her. What do آپ think? The Luke and Laura for 2010? Give me a flippin’ break!
-Damon killed her brother, Jeremy. Just to hurt her. How is this love? Where is the sacrifice?
-There’s also the unspoken skeeviness of having slept with her mother (for a time) before killing and turning her. Really, Elena? Writers?! Come on! I don’t care how pretty he is, آپ just DON’T…or, if آپ must, don’t call it a love story.
I had to check in with my own mother to inquire as to how much time one would have to spend in the ethical penalty box for macking on a guy who’s already slept with your mama. Mom’s SEEN تصاویر of Damon and although she totally gets how preternaturally beautiful he is, she never wavered, smacking me down with a resounding, “Those hi-jinks in “The Graduate” notwithstanding, it just isn’t DONE, baby-girl.” Message received,

I’m going to go out on a limb here and state unequivocally that if your possible love interest had been responsible for all the above and more…he’s probably not the man for you, dear. Bamon people-if آپ ever get into a debate with Delena people, برداشت, ریچھ in mind the above points and realize that if a girl STILL wants to be with the man who put her through all that…well, not only do I NOT want to be her friend, I for sure wouldn’t want to be the object of Damon’s ‘affection’.
At almost every turn, he denies Elena the right to own her agency and she ALLOWS this. He treats her like a beloved furry domesticated pet to his ambivalent, at times abusive pet-owner: property, which is nice to look at, tease and stroke and play with. He may love it on some level, but if she steps wrong, آپ won’t hesitate to pop her on the nose with newspaper یا just totally remove her choices. آپ don’t respect pets, آپ don’t form lasting, passionate bonds built on mutual respect, trust and friendship. The کتیا, کتيا of it is that like many domesticated animals, if آپ scold them today, they’ll still curl up and forgive آپ سے طرف کی nightfall.
All that being said, there are moments when Elena [i]does[/] shine. Unfortunately, most of those shining instances occur when Damon’s not around to get in the way of her agency:
-piecing the puzzle of Stefan’s existence together; then running like hell
-standing up for herself when dealing with both an ineffectual aunt and absentee father
-running into the tomb vampire’s basement to help save Stefan. Vervain on the ropes
wasn’t in the plan, was it, D?
-giving Stefan blood to energize him into fighting Frederick.
-actually picking up a weapon to confront the things that go bump in the night on several occasions. She’s scared, but she’ll be damned if she’s not going down swinging.
-taking care of Rose, then herself during the haunted house episode.
-making the Elijah Contract 1.0 to save her people.
-I assume making the Elijah Contract 2.0 in tonight’s episode.
-and now we’re learning in an interview that دکھائیں creator KW wanted Elena to secret Bonnie away to keep her out of Klaus’ clutches for a spell. I’m not going to protest, because the logistics behind actually getting that to work would’ve been questionable. Not to mention, there were some touching Damon moments with Bonnie.
Bottom line-Elena is much better off doing her thing without the interference of Damon in screwing with her life and the choices she makes. Damon, on the other hand, NEEDS to be with a woman demands his respect, who’s not afraid to call him on his shit, someone who hasn’t had so much personal history with him and definitely someone who mother he hasn’t slept with.
Any ideas, folks? Yep, thought so. The line forms behind HER, y’all.
