Why is Merida being voted? She runs away from her problems and thinks becoming cold is the way you can be the ruler. And she poisons her mother behind her back. Mer threw a complete tantrum just for a single thing and she wants to complicate her relationship with Elinor even more. This sourpass barely was a hero, she isnot sacrificial like some girls. Yeah, as I said before, Merida is more fearless than brave except for the ending. Pocahontas as well.

And I'd say Cinderella's at least as brave. People really need to get over this idea than people, especially women, can only be brave in the physical sense, when they do "cool" stuff like fight. But it's weird, Rapunzel gets called brave all the time for being in a very similar situation to Cinderella but the latter isn't really seen as courageous. Overcoming abuse isn't easy, and taking the risk of defying your oppressor and getting seen at the ball took guts. In the same situation, I think Mulan would have made very similar if not the same choices.
