Camp Halfblood
Chapter One
I was sweat bathed, panting. I went to the weapon room and put my sword there. I wiped my forehead with my t-shirt, and sat on the bench.
One of my best friends, Nathan came over. “Hey, Alex.” He panted too, hands on knees. “Nice sword-fighting skills. You'll be ready with those monsters on our quest.”
“No way.” I shook my head violently. “Not fighting with Typhon.”
They my two other best friends, Leo and Luke barged into the battle arena. They ran into the weapon room and grabbed their swords.
They saw us and came over, too.
“Hey guys.” I greeted. “Practicing some sword-play?”
“Apparently.” Leo shrugged. “So how's the quest coming along?”
    “We got it.” I smiled.
    “Seriously?” Luke widened his eyes.
    “Seriously. Not kidding.” I grinned.
“Oh, man. This is gonna rock.” Leo grinned, too.
They started fighting with each other with their swords(all right, just practicing some sword-play, okay? Not for real.) and Nathan and I walked out of the arena.
“What are آپ doing now?” He asked me.
“Go back to my cabin. Hang out with the other Athena kids.” I shrugged. “You?”
“Same as you. Hey, any idea what Isabella is doing?” Isabella is my one of my best friends. I have four best friends, and us five are all best دوستوں to each other.
“No idea. Haven't seen her this morning.” I shrugged again.
“Okay. See ya at lunch. یا come find me and the other guys.” Nathan waved. He went back to his cabin.
I headed back to my cabin. I opened the door, finding Hugo Sashski inside, lying on his bunk bed.
“Where's everyone else?” I asked him.
“Well. I know Kelly is in Demeter's cabin. Jared and Will are in Hermes. Charlie is in Dionysus. And the rest I don't know. And I'm going to Ares now.” He kicked up and slipped on his bright green Nikes and ran out of the cabin, leaving the wooden door shut behind him.
I kicked off my blue and black Nikes and climbed up the ladder to the bunk above Hugo's. Now no one was here, I could think.
I think I better explain everything to you. آپ must be completely mixed up سے طرف کی now. Sword fighting? Demeter? Hermes? Dionysus? Athena?
All right. I'll explain it. آپ might not believe this, but just listen.
I am Alexandra Avison. I am twelve years old. And there's one thing آپ need to know: We are all demigods. Half Greek god, half human. That means we are half mortal. Most demigods are at Camp Half-Blood, where my four best دوستوں and I are. We all have each a godly parent. I am the daughter of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, war, justice, art, industry, and skill. Leo is the son of Apollo, the Greek god of music, archery, prophecy, healing, and the sun. Luke is the son of Ares, the Greek god of war. Nathan is the son of Hephaestus, the Greek god of آگ کے, آگ and crafts and blacksmiths. Isabella is the daughter of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty.
I thought for a while and climbed off the ladder. I slipped in my shoes and went out the door. It was a typical July day, burning hot.
I walked past Hermes and Demeter's کیبن and arrived at Aphrodite's. I opened the door.
Lucy Garmith appeared in front of me. She was the Aphrodite's counselor. She looked at me for one look and shouted back into the cabin. “Isabella! It's your friend!”
I waited for a moment and Isabella appeared in the door way. She looked absolutely gorgeous, just like all the Aphrodite kids. She had beautiful hazel hair all the way up to her back, and intense light brown hazel eyes that looks so soft. She smiled at me and came out.
“Hey Alex. What's up?” She asked softly.
“We got our quest. ” I told her. “Chiron agreed to it.”
Okay, maybe I should explain about the quest, too. We were offered a quest about a ماہ پہلے to destroy Typhon and his crew. Typhon is one of the largest monsters. We were deciding whether to go یا not. We all کہا yes. But something happened on the god's side, and Chiron, our camp activity counselor and basically our principle, put down the quest for a month. Then this morning, as I was heading to the battle arena for practicing, Chiron came over and told us the problem with the gods are solved. He told me that we can leave tomorrow morning.
    “Really?” She squealed.
“Yup.” I said. “The others know already.”
“Awesome! So when are we starting?”
    “Tomorrow.”
    “So soon?”
“Exactly. Come on, let's go to the Hephaestus کیبن and get Nathan. I know Leo and Luke are still at the arena.” I pulled Isabel's hand.
We ran past the Ares cabin, and arrived at the Hephaestus cabin. I pulled open the door, and called inside.
“Nathan?” I shouted into the wooden کیبن as a miniature airplane zipped past my ear.
“Watch it!” I shouted to the direction where the airplane flew from.
“Sorry.” Their counselor, Danny grinned sheepishly.
The Hephaestus kids could make really cool little things within five minutes. After all, they are children of Hephaestus, the god of crafts and blacksmiths. The kids all had pockets full of things like سکریو ڈرایور, ڈرایور یا wires یا pieces of metal یا wood.
Nathan appeared at the door. He came out with us.
“Hi dudes. 'was packing my stuff for the quest.” Nathan came out, a hand full of different sizes and shapes of سکریو ڈرایور, ڈرایور heads.
“Don't forget to pack your clothes.” I joked.
“I already got them packed. So no worries.” Nathan laughed, too.
We three walked across the field to the battle arena. We arrived just in time for seeing Leo and Luke walk out of the front door. They waved to us as we approached them.
“So, guys, finished packing already?” Leo greeted.
“Yup. Well, after I put these in my pack.” Nathan said, holding out the screwdrivers.
“I think that's the only thing you've packed. Tools.” Luke joked.
    “Nah, seriously.” Nathan said.
“You guys should seriously go back and start packing.” I told them.
“It's okay. I'll pack tonight. یا اگلے morning.” Luke is the type of person who does things at the last minute.
“Typical Luke.” Nathan muttered as the lunch گھنٹی, بیل rang.
“Time for lunch.” Isabella said, dragging us away.

Time past quickly, and soon it was the اگلے morning.
I woke up excitedly. No one else was awake in my cabin. I glanced at my watch. 5: 56.
I got up and looked through my backpack to see if I packed everything in it. I made sure my dagger was there and I had extra cash. Like, dollars. In camp, we have our own currency. Ancient Greek golden drachmas.
I stared out the window. Nothing was there except for fresh green grass.
I fell back into my بستر and fell asleep again.
This time, when I woke up, the Sun was shining. Kelly Pesinica and Hugo were already awake. I glanced at my watch again. This time, it read 6: 51.
“Whoa!” I sat up my bed. I was supposed to me at the Big House at seven. We were going to get last منٹ instructions and some emergency information from Chiron. We were leaving at seven thirty. Chiron didn't want all the campers to come out.
“What's going on there?” Kelly asked. Kelly was our counselor, and she is really nice.
“I'm going to be late!” I shouted, and stepped on the ladder. I tripped on the last one, and almost fell down.
“Careful!” Kelly کہا as she steadied me.
“Thanks, Kelly. I'm really gonna miss آپ when I'm gone.” I said, taking my backpack from my bunk.
“We're all gonna miss آپ when your gone.” Kelly smiled.
“All right, I really gotta go. See آپ after we come back!” I shouted. If we will come back, I thought. I opened the door and stepped out.
“Have fun on your quest!” Kelly called behind me. Then the door closed.
I ran outside. I saw Leo running about fifteen feet in front of my on my way to the Big House.
Before I could shout to him, he tripped over a rock and fell over.
I ran towards him as fast as I could. “Leo! آپ okay?”
“Oh what the...” Leo held his leg painfully.
“Are آپ all right?” I asked him worriedly, concerned. I didn't want someone to get hurt before we even set off.
Leo looked at his leg. “It's just a bruise. I think I'm all right.” Leo said, putting both of his hands on his leg.
Then the bruise was gone, and his leg looked perfectly normal, and Leo stood up, brushing the dirt off his pants. “I'm fine now. Come on.”
That was the power of Apollo. He was the Greek god of healing.
I picked up Leo's backpack for him and he took it. “Thanks.”
We kept running until we reached the Big House.
The Big House was painted completely white, and as the name, it was fairly big. It was where Chiron and the other people who were not demigods lived.
I opened the door, and Leo and I went in. We found Chiron in his wheel-chair position sitting at the big table. Luke and Isabella were sitting at the two sides of him, Luke tapping his finger against the black, comfy chair, tapping a rhythm, and Isabella staring at the ceiling. It was obvious they had been waiting for us.
“Hey guys, sorry for being late.” I took a نشست beside Luke.
“No, آپ are not late, we are early.” Chiron said, pointing at the big clock. True, it read
6: 56.
Just then, Nathan burst into the room. “Am I late?” He asked, panting.
“Nope. Now that everyone is here, we can start.” Chiron started. “First things first. آپ guys all need some nectar and ambrosia.” Nectar and ambrosia were god curing foods. But we have to be careful, because too much can burn us into ashes.
Chiron handed out us each a Ziploc bag of little cubes.
“Now, سیکنڈ of all. All of آپ packed a blessing, right?”
    “Yeah.” We answered.
After he went through some instructions, it was finally time to go.
“Do your best!” Chiron called behind us.
    “We will!” We shouted.
As we stepped out of the magical border of Camp Half-blood, I called back, “Bye, Camp Half-blood.”

“So,” Luke said, “Where are we going now? Now that we're out of Camp Half-blood.”
“Well,” I suggested, “I did some research on Typhon. From my documents, he lives in caves.”
“Great.” Nathan muttered. “Out of hundreds and thousands of caves in America, we're supposed to find one with Typhon in it. And, maybe he isn't in his cave, maybe he's somewhere else.”
“Well, better than having no goals at all.” Leo pointed out. “Come on.”
“We might as well knock the heads off some other monsters on our way.” Luke smiled, punching his fists. Luke, as the son of Ares, wants to pick up a fight on everyone, except for us.
    “Luke.” Isabella smiled.
“Okay, okay. Now, guys, from what Chiron said, Typhon is near Los Angeles. That makes it even مزید easy.” Leo said.
“Alright, let's head to Los Angeles!” I کہا triumphantly.
“Let's go!” Nathan said, running taking out a compass. “Now,” he looked at the compass, “we shall go this way. This is west.” He pointed to a direction.
“Okay. But we are not going to travel سے طرف کی foot to the other side of the country.” Leo said.
“I have an idea.” Isabella smiled.

“Whoohoo! My first ride on a helicopter!” Leo waved his arms around. “This is really cool!”
“Nice charm speaking, Isabella!” I shouted through the noise of the motor of the helicopter.
Aphrodite has a ability of charm speaking. She can charm-speak to someone and make the person do anything the charm-speaker wants him to do. The ability passes down to Aphrodite's children. This time, Isabella charm spoke to the helicopter driver in the woods, the searchers, and we got the helicopter.
“Nice, but we need something even faster! We only have sixteen days until Summer Solstice!” Nathan, the pilot کہا into a mic. He was wearing a headset and had a mic attached to his headphones. مالٹا, نارنگی shade sunglasses were also attached to the headset, and Nathan had slid it down and adjusted it so it was in the right place. In other words, he looked very professional. He had turned the radio off, so that whatever he says through the microphone, it only comes out through the two boom boxes stuck on to the helicopter ceiling, that makes us, the passengers, hear it.
“That's enough!” I shouted. “Sixteen days is enough!”
“It's not! We still have to find and fight Typhon! That all comes before the Solstice! Plus, Chiron کہا traveling should only take, like, a quarter of the time!” Leo pointed out.
“Oh, right.” I murmured, slapping my forehead. “Oh, yeah.”
“Plus,” Leo کہا again, “There's not gonna be enough fuel.”
“Well then, we can find a godly creature.” Nathan shrugged.
“Like Pegasus and Hippocampi?” Luke asked, suggesting.
“Yup.” Nathan said, holding the controls. “Whoa, I don't know why, I but feel like I've had ten years of helicopter training plus ten years of helicopter flying. I know all of these buttons!”
“'Cause you're Hephaestus, crafts and blacksmiths. This is kind of a craft and a blacksmiths thing, isn't it?” Leo said.
“True. But I feel like I fly this everyday!”
“Maybe آپ drove this once but don't remember it.” I tapped my knee, thinking of the possibilities.
“I don't think so.” Nathan shook his head.
“Guys,” Luke said, “any of آپ know how fast a helicopter lasts? We need someone to do a calculation.”
“Not me.” Leo said, shaking his head. “Don't forget, I have dyscalculia.”
Leo has this learning disability called dyscalculia. Most of us demigods have some sort of disease. It just runs in our blood. It often happens when a god meets a mortal. Like, for example, I have ADHD. ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Which basically means I am often over hyper and I am impulsive. And I can't pay much attention to things. I am really easy to be distracted, a short attention span. They say that also affects me so I have various behavioral problems. I don't have any learning disabilities, though. But having ADHD is hard enough. It really stops آپ from learning. آپ just can't stop moving. It's really hard on us.
Anyway, dyscalculia is a kind of learning disability in which they have a hard time doing math یا calculating. Leo's a typical dyscalculia person. He claims that his mind gets all messed up when he sees numbers. I personally don't get that, because my mind hardly gets messed up. But Nathan says he gets it.
Nathan has dyslexia and dysgraphia. It's hard for him to read یا to write properly. Nathan says that words change positions when he looks at them. And it's kind of embarrassing to him, but he still can't write the alphabets properly, and he's in sixth grade. But he has a way with tools and crafts. It's just like he changed a pair of hands.
Luke seems like he has nothing, just a hobby of beating people up. And he really doesn't have much of a learning disability یا ADHD. But he's told us that the camp doctor says that he has “a little trouble controlling his anger”. But he's only got a little bit of that, and most kids of Ares has that.
“I can, but I don't want to.” Nathan said. “I hate writing.”
“Yeah, me too.” I told them. “I have a short attention span, so I can't really focus on one thing.”
“You guys are so lucky.” Isabella whined. “You all are special with learning disabilities and all, but all I've got is dyspepsia.”
    We laughed.
“How are we lucky? آپ don't know how we feel.” Nathan called from the pilot's seat.
“Exactly.” Luke muttered and we laughed again.
“You can't exactly say anything, Luke.” I nudged him. He laughed, too.
“You know what, Isabella? You're the one who's lucky.” Leo said.
“Yeah. آپ don't have any thing blocking you. That's called lucky.” I said.
    “Totally agreed.” Luke nodded.
“Do آپ have anything blocking you?” Nathan looked back at him.
Luke turned as red as a tomato. I couldn't tell if he was blushing یا angry.
“Anyways, so who's gonna do the calculating?” Leo grinned sheepishly, deciding to change the subject.
    “I'll do it.” Isabella said.
“No, it's okay. I'll do it.” Luke turned back to normal color.
“I'm better at math.” Isabella pointed out.
    “Truth.” Luke admitted.
“Just an additional information; most helicopter's speed is 150 miles per hour.” Nathan called.
“Okay. Now let's round the distance up to about 3,000 miles from Long Island to Los Angeles.” Isabella scribbled on a piece of paper. “So divide 3000 سے طرف کی 150, that equals twenty. So it's twenty...hours? Yeah, I think it's hours. We should be arriving in twenty hours.” Isabella concluded.
“If we fly non-stop.” Luke pointed out.
“I really hope the fuel lasts that long, because twenty hours is actually great.” I said. “And I can try to take over for Nathan. Nathan, just teach me a few of these buttons. I'll try my best to learn it as fast as possible.”
My ADHD makes it kind of hard to learn things fast. But I figured having control over a few buttons and handles won't be too hard.
“How long have we been flying?” Leo wondered out loud.
“About an hour.” Luke replied. “I think.”
“Then nineteen hours left. But the fuel isn't enough.” I tapped my foot.
“Maybe. Who knows anything about the fuel of helicopters?” Nathan demanded, looking back at us.
“Jeez, not my fault I don't know.” Isabel stared at him.
    “Sorry.” Nathan apologized.
