7 Questions ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Needs To Answer Before The Finale
With only one episode left in season one, here are the biggest questions we need answered.
We’ve nearly reached the end of the road for “Fear the Walking Dead,” at least as far as season one goes. The Clark and Manawa families are about to sign off for who knows how long, but before they do, there’s still so much they need to accomplish — and so much the show needs to answer. Such as…
The families are stretched pretty far apart right now: Madison and Travis and their kids in the locked-down neighborhood, Nick stuck with Strand inside the military base, Liza crushing cadavers with cattle guns at the military base… the list goes on. Getting all these people back into the same space and pushing their stories forward together does not sound like an easy task, especially with only one episode remaining in the season.
The last time he tried, he ended up relying on an infirm man’s morphine drip to get him through the rough patch. Now, he’s detoxing in a makeshift prison cell, on the verge of having to fight for his life if he wants to not become part of the Cobalt purge. Is Nick going to be able to clear the “gold standard” of addiction in the finale, or at least start the genuine road to recovery?
Nick’s cellmate is one of the most enigmatic characters of the season, and we only just met the guy. We feel like we know a little bit about him already, based solely on the three scenes we’ve seen thus far, but the finale has to answer a few more questions — the biggest one being, what’s his plan with Nick and the key?
Pretty badass, we hope! She’s not quite at Carol status yet (then again, who is, except for the Cookie Monster herself?), but Liza has shown a willingness to roll up her sleeves and get with the times, adjusting to the new world order better than many of the other grownups we’ve met on the show. If the past few episodes have started pushing Liza down the Peletier Path, then there’s no telling how much further the finale can take her.
At the end of the penultimate episode, Daniel Salazar checks in on the arena filled with walkers, to verify Adams’ story. He immediately sees that the story wasn’t a ruse. Walkers pound at the locked up doors, threatening to burst free. Should we expect the doors to finally give in once the finale starts rolling? It certainly feels like a ticking time bomb, one that could very easily explode in the coming episode.
…when he finds out his wife is dead? This is not a man who suffers fools easily, but how is he with tragic loss? We know Salazar has a bit of a Sayid Jarrah streak in him, once serving as a torturer during war in El Salvador, so smart money says he will react poorly and use his particular set of skills to become a nightmare for people like Adams and the other soldiers planning on pulling off the Cobalt mission.
The military plans to initiate “humane termination” on a massive scale starting at oh-nine-hundred, which cannot be good news for anyone in Los Angeles — least of them the Clarks and Manawas, and what’s left of the Salazars. I’m expecting a bunch of red-shirt deaths, but will we lose main characters as well? Even if it’s not the flagship series, this is the world of “Walking Dead,” and a finale no less — the chances of losing someone important are very big. The question is, who are we going to lose?
Likes pizza, punch and pie. Dislikes the Chitauri.
