in Russian the movie translation seems to be funny... because "take out your wand" sounds a bit odd in our language. it's ambiguous expression in some way.

Well, the ukrainian translation is exact, but russian is made with changes: Hufflpuf is translated into Puffenduy, Rivenclo into Cogtevran, Snape into Snegg, Voldemort into Volan-de-Mort,Hedwig into Buklya,Med Eye is translated not exactly too ))) so, when I read original, I was surprised سے طرف کی some words )))

I have read both in Polish and English. I prefer the original of course, but I am glad they didn't translate any names in Polish version. They did that in Norway where I currently live and everytime I am in the theatre watching HP with Norwegian subtitles, I am dying laughing. It's distracting and unnecessary in my opinion.

The original is much better IMO because I don't like changes, even if they're natural and... well, needed. The کتابیں lose their magic a little bit.
The Swedish translation is pretty good, they haven't done a lot of changes in names etc. Why Gilderoy Lockhart was translated into "Gyllenroy Lockman" is beyond me, but the rest are just direct.
Words like "Diagon Alley" can't really be translated and still be funny, hence why I prefer the original in English. :(

So far I've read the کتابیں in 3 different languages: German, English and Croatian (not all of them, only in Croatian I've read them all).
English is of course the best one, because it has all the right terms I'm used to from the movies.
Now, Croatian. It's not that it's bad translated. It's just that there are a couple of things that bug me a lot, some words totally stupid translated. But other than that, it's cool.
German is ok. It's not my maternal language, but I completely understand it. Some words are stupid, just like in Croatian, but other than that I'm satisfied with those translations.
So English is definitely my favorite. As for Croatian and German, I think the translators did a good job, except for maybe a couple of thing that I wouldn't necessarily translate.

I prefer the original سے طرف کی far. The Norwegian translation was so bad that I didn't even bother finishing the series until I reread it in English.
The translation makes the کتابیں sound مزید childish than they really are. I can't actually remember this myself, but I have heard that it works for the first two books. In the third book it's starting to lose it's charm and after the fourth and the series get considerably darker, it's completely ridiculous. I recently tried reading the fourth book in Norwegian, and I couldn't push myself any further than the first five pages. The writing is so dull.

I also hate how they translated all the names. I mean, I understand why they did (to make it easier for younger kids to understand, pronounce and relate), but it's still silly. Take George. George is a perfectly fine name. I know several Norwegian kids named George, and then they go change his name to Frank. It makes no bloody sense. Even worse than that is Bill and Charlie - they become Rulle and Kalle. Those are names for dogs, I tell you, DOGS. Kalle means call and Rulle means (to) roll. It's just completely idiotic. Moony is translated into Luna, and Luna becomes Lulla. And it's all just a big mess of ugly names.
Yeah...
