I think it totally depends on the film. There are some brilliant PG-13 films that I would consider horror, and some R films that are not as horrorish.. It all depends on the film in my opinion..

Like with Stay Alive, I didn't see the PG-13 version. When they released an Unrated version I became more interested in it. To me personally if it's not R or Unrated I really don't care. I like to see all the blood and guts. No blood, no guts, no glory!

Look at Poltergeist. It is rated PG and it is scary as hell.

they have to be rated R to be scarey or high pg 13 not regular pg 13

after seeing ghost ship i do not underestimate pg13 films that movie should have been an R man it freaked me out i've seen R movies that didn't creep me out as bad and i might add ghost ship was PG13 when it first came out

i think so. a movie doesn't need violence or nudity to make it horror, unless of coarse it's your grandmas. but seriously, i agree that there are some pg movies that can scare the crap out of you and some r rated ones not as much.

Yes, language and gore are completely unnecessary in a horror movie. As Alfred Hitchcock said "There is no terror in a bang, only in the anticipation of it."

If the R has sexuilty i dont like watching them bbut i do anyways

I prefer watching horror movies rated R or Unrated because I like seeing more contribution to a story, but I think PG-13 movies can be just as great, if not better, than R/Unrated movies.

I prefer R by far but take out the language, nudity and pointless gore in a lot of horror classics and they'd be pg13

With the proper writing it can be.
