Some say that he is simply a jerk but I beg to differ. Someone is not born being a jerk, they are either made that way due to life experiences یا a mental disorder. In the fourth episode of the 3rd season “Lines in the Sand” House treats an autistic patient. Wilson begins to wonder why House wants to treat this autistic boy and comes to the conclusion that House may suffer from Asperger Syndrome a type of autism that causes difficulties in social interaction, restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests but it also causes physical clumsiness and the atypical use of language.
After Wilson tells Cuddy this observation he quickly dismisses it سے طرف کی simply saying that House is just a jerk.
Of course House isn’t physically clumsy and his use of language is above the norm so he doesn’t have autism.
But why is House a jerk?
We all know that House’s father (or should we say ‘step father’ since he’s not his biological father) was abusive to him and his mother appeared to be indifferent to what his step father was towards him.
Those early abusive experiences did in fact affect him in a way that made him a jerk. He wasn’t born that way.
From my studies of psychology I recently paid attention to the subject of Personality Disorders and came across one disorder that described House;
Schizoid Personality Disorder
Schizoid individuals are described as socially detached from relationships and emotional contact. The person will manifest a lifelong pattern of social isolation characterized سے طرف کی a lack of friendships and سے طرف کی indifference to the attitudes and feelings of others.
Some individuals tend to engage in solitary activities, which often involve mechanical, scientific, futuristic, یا other nonhuman subjects.
Here آپ would say that House is a doctor who treats people, but remember he does all he can NOT to come in contact with the patient, he only sees their ailments as a puzzle that he needs to solve. After he does solve it, however, he doesn’t see it as saving a person’s life.
The basic dynamic of a schizoid person is defensive withdrawal from attachments because of the expectation that they will be painful. This behavior is caused سے طرف کی the extensive use of denial یا dissociation of bodily feelings.
At times this social detachment is compensated for the reliance on fantasy life یا any event that involves imaginary world in which the people and situations are مزید gratifying than in reality.

Schizoid individuals are rare in clinical population because of they’re averse to seek treatment.
The schizoid personality is believed to be a stable and lifelong adaptation that begins very early. Schizoid personality people may find a comfortable niche in a variety of employment where social interaction is minimal (take House’s talent of cooking).
Since such people can find a good “comfortable” life in the right environment, schizoid people appear increasingly adaptive over time سے طرف کی forming a stable but distant network of relationships with people around them and also with recreational tasks.
Some theories suggests that the schizoid personality of detachment starts early in life. A shy and introverted temperament is thought to be the causing factor. These people fail to develop a normal attachment to primary caregivers and suggest that this is due to inadequate, cold یا neglectful early parenting. Some theories say that this begins early and that the patient’s withdrawal from relationships comes سیکنڈ later in its young adult to adult life.
