ended its nine-season run on CBS in 2014, producer 20th Century Fox TV had been looking to launch a spinoff from a female point of view. Now the studio also would like to bring back the mothership series, which 20th TV chairman Dana Walden called one of the biggest comedies in the studio library, for a reunion.
CBS Interested In New 'How I Met Your Mother' Spinoff 'How I Met Your Father'
“I hope we will have an opportunity to revisit these characters and tell these stories if (the creators and stars)  have the desire to do it,” she said during Fox’s upfronts press call on Monday. It’s a beloved show that still continues to be popular all over the world.”
There would be significant logistical issues — creators Carter Bays & Craig Thomas are under a deal at Sony TV and the cast members are doing other things; star Josh Radnor for instance is the lead of new NBC drama
reunion on NBC proved (its co-creator Max Mutchick also is under an overall deal elsewhere and Eric McCormack has a Netflix series), nothing is impossible.
As for the spinoff,  the studio had remained high on the premise, occasionally revisiting the idea, even after Bays and Thomas moved to Sony. And earlier this season, a new version, titled

It seems Bays and Thomas deal with Sony isn’t going very well (4 pilots rejected in 2 years) so maybe they can find a new deal with 20th Century Fox and doing a revamp of How I Met Your Mother,or a spin-off.
“It’s a beloved show that still continues to be popular all over the world.”
No it WAS a beloved show until that horrible finale. I used to see it in syndication all the time and now…. not so much.
Agreed. That final season was a disaster from start to finish.
I agree. A good program let down by a terrible series finale. Almost no one wanted to see the potential spin-off; How I Met Your Father and almost no one wants to original return.
Shoot it with silver bullets and plant a wooden stake in it’s heart. Almost anything never to bring it back.
Then you aren’t looking hard enough there, buddy. It plays regularly on Lifetime, FX, FXX, TV Land, WGN America and local FOX O&O stations. Give your opinion but don’t make up facts!
Yep, I’ll never understand why they stubbornly held onto an outdated ending. They knew it was bad too because I remember before the episode aired they said they weren’t doing any post-finale interviews.
Do they not realise that they need to leave things to rest for a bit before holding a reunion/revival?
It won’t be long now until someone airs the final episodes of a show at the start of a TV season, then the revival airs at the end of the same season. :/
NO! Not after that finale! I can’t even bare to see it in reruns or look at my DVDs from the early seasons. They can’t undo the damage. Just NO!
Maybe I would be okay with this, but not with that finale.
still can’t fathom how anyone was shocked by the finale. wasn’t it blatantly obvious from the pilot??
Apparently the studio doesn’t realize they wasted all the goodwill their series built up in the horrible finale.
They should do How I Met Your Father with Cristin Milioti
I thought the finale was very good. In life people divorce, people die, and the people that should be together sometimes get another shot at it. And it was funny. I was very satisfied with how it wrapped and I’d love to see a reunion. They were one of the best tv comedy ensembles ever.
Really really want to see Ted’s reaction to Cleveland winning in the NBA finals
I’ll never watch a spinoff or reunion for this show. Used to love the show until that last season that was dragged out with an entire season to show one wedding weekend and the way they handled the mother after all that build up. Sold my DVDs of the show after that finale and I’ve never watched it on syndication again after that.
