House stayed in the living room after walking in the house an گھنٹہ after he saw the plane leaving the airport. He didn’t bother switching on the hallway light, knowing it’ll disturb Cuddy who was already sleeping. He sighed as he took the سوفی, لٹانا and turned the lamp beside it. He doesn’t have any case, his clinic duty was lightened but he felt drained. For the first time after he left Mayfield, he doesn’t know what to do with his life and he feared that the thought of having doubts on the path he’s into will enter his mind. He let his arm stayed on the armrest with his hand holding his head and decided to stay like that as a smile was then creping on his lips as he goes back to the days he had with Casey. Her voice stayed in his mind and the last things she told him while in the airport almost threaten to give him tears. He then remembered the folded paper his daughter had دیا him, the letter from Stacey. He pulled it out from his pocket, opened it and his pupils were averting as he read on.
“Just got home?” He looked up to see Cuddy, both palms caressing baby bump, standing سے طرف کی the living room doorway. Hair mess up, no make ups but still looks beautiful wearing her lingerie for pregnant women.
“Ah, yah,” he answered trying to fold the piece of paper he barely finished reading. “I’m sorry, I guess I woke آپ up,” he added as he straightened himself on the couch. She shook her head and studied him as he ran one palm on his pinkish red face. He might have noticed that Cuddy wasn’t moving towards him so he blurted after giving a sigh, “Stacy wrote me a letter. Sorry-s almost filled the paper. She assured my communication with Casey isn’t ---“
“House,” she کہا almost in a whispery tone that he could barely hear. He expected her to shout at him to shut up but she was smiling. Guess Wilson’s right after all, she’s happy but specifically for what? He eyed her walked from the doorway until she landed herself to the reading chair across him. “I am not expecting آپ to tell all these things to me.”
“I am telling this to آپ for آپ to know. I thought this is what…couples do. They ---“
“I don’t.” He held a confuse face that’s asking her ‘what do آپ mean’. “As much as I wanted to know everything about you, I can’t… I shouldn’t. I have to at least give آپ a space for آپ to breathe alone.”
Her speech was followed with their eyes locked with each other and no words filled the room. He was still wearing that confuse look but the pregnant woman before him was trying to make a smile. “Wha… What do آپ mean?” he finally admitted his defeat on knowing what this drama is all about.
Cuddy sighed and her smile slowly faded away as she looked down on her honey wood flooring. “You’ve been… distracted for the past few days, House and… those days bought me time to think if we really should get going.”
“This is insane,” those were the only words that he could come up with after a long brief pause between them. She looked up and saw him standing as the paper he was holding earlier was left on the سوفی, لٹانا behind him. “Are we… breaking up?” he asked with a lump on his throat. He feared the answer, he doesn’t want to hear it but there she said, “I am… breaking us up.”
He looked at her eyes as it were being flooded with tears now. He could tell from the sight before him, that this isn’t what she wants, not even need. All this time he thought they’re doing okay, sure there are days that they argue but having a break up is the least thing he have in mind, in fact, the thing didn’t even came across his mind. Yes, he’s Greg House but what is happening right now in the household is something he wasn’t prepared for.
“You’re not doing this, Cuddy, آپ can’t be doing this,” he کہا as he began pacing out in the room. “Listen,” he turned to face her, “what you’re feeling isn’t normal. آپ can’t make rational decision now; we’re having a baby in two months and we’re going to have it together.”
She was shaking her head as he spoke and replied when he finished, “the rational part of my decision is that we’ll still be together when the baby comes around not just… not just the kind of ‘togetherness’ آپ have in mind.” House once again ran a palm running his face. Cuddy looked up to see him and said, “You might not see the brighter side of this but ----“
“Would آپ mind giving me some valid reason on why the hell are آپ ending this relationship?” he cut her off the moment he stopped and turned to face her again. A cry sounded from the nursery, a cue that they have woken the sleeping baby up. Cuddy looked at the room’s direction for a few سیکنڈ before turning back to him and said, “We had a mistake when we thought this will work and it doubles up when we got in. We’re not ready, House.” The last line almost convinced him she was right but he doesn’t want to let her go.
Rachel’s cry continues and that’s when Cuddy remembered Tammy and Tria wasn’t at ہوم that night after they got a call from their mother and daughter. She stood up as she wiped her tears away with the back of her hand, about to leave the man he loved, literally and figuratively. Just when she made her way to the hallway, House grabbed her wrist that made her look at his sadness-filled eyes. She swallowed, hoping it’ll take the lump out of her throat away, and said, “Two months is long enough to know if we are really for each other. سے طرف کی the time the baby comes, we’ll see.”
House sighed and closed his eyes when Cuddy’s lips touched his. He hugged her so tight as they deepened the kiss but she broke it as Rachel’s cry kept growing louder. “Lisa,” he called her name softly.
“I should… get Rachel now,” was the response he got and with that he eyed her, leave the room and entered the nursery, sobbing.
It was an گھنٹہ after lunch when Wilson burst into House’s inner office. The diagnostician didn’t see him since he got in that morning, didn’t even made a call either for consultation یا just plain giving pranks. He stopped on his tracks after pulling the door opened and letting it close behind him. There was something with the ambiance of the room he was uneasy about. He found his friend standing, facing the window, holding a half-filled glass of whiskey. The bottle was on the desk, also half empty.
“So,” Wilson started knowing his friend won’t bother turning back to face him, “it’s true.” There was nothing in reply. “You’d talk to her further more?”
“What’s the point?” House finally uttered something before facing his friend, “that’s what she wanted.”
Wilson looked at him with the ‘what-the-hell-are-you-talking-about’ look. “House, آپ have to talk to her about this. آپ guys are having a baby in two months, this shouldn’t be happening. If آپ can work it out as soon as آپ can, it’ll be better. Just don’t ---“
“Right! Tell that to her! Tell her how her decision turned out to be a shit!” His voice is raging with anger and sadness and Wilson knew he’s just trying to hold himself together but that wouldn’t last long and judging سے طرف کی the shot glass that was thrown to the دیوار and apparently had broken into piece, guess it already broke out. “I already tried to talk her out of it,” House added with his fist heavily slammed against the glass desk. His voice is now shaky and soft but no tears appeared as he looked down, “but she didn’t listen.”
“Maybe… Maybe you’re not just trying hard enough,” Wilson کہا as he walked towards the visitor’s chair. House looked at Wilson with sober eyes that the oncologist had never seen before, “There!” the diagnostician کہا as he heavily slammed a roll of paper in front of his friend, “would that shut آپ up?”
The oncologist shockingly looked up to him again upon realizing what the paper before him meant, “you’re… you’re building a house for her?” House looked, sighed and replied, “I’m buying that house for her. It’s already built,” then he turned to face the windows again, “it’s a coastal home. I knew she wouldn’t want to leave the house she have now but I figured it wouldn’t fit for a growing family. But I was wrong. Her house will fit for the three of them after all.”
“House,” Wilson uttered with a smile, “it’s not too late. آپ should tell her about this, about your plans for the future. I’m happy you’ve grown,” and in return the diagnostician just sighed.
Meanwhile, back in Cuddy’s home, she was standing سے طرف کی the doorway giving Rachel a kiss while Tammy held the toddler. Apparently, the nanny offered to troll the little girl to the park which the mother agreed on. “Just be careful when crossing the streets and flying freebies in the park, okay?” the dean reminded for the fifth time that made Tammy chuckled and replied, “Oh yes Dr. Cuddy, I will.”
With that, they parted ways as the dean went back to the dining hall to finish the paperwork she brought ہوم yesterday. It’s actually a good thing that she did since heavy morning sickness hit her that دن and with the thing that happened between her and House last night, she barely could concentrate on the job. She let him sleep in the house last night but it wouldn’t be enough to pre-pay the nights without him starting tonight.
‘God Lisa, stop thinking about him. آپ two will be fine,’ she thought to herself as she tried to bring herself back to senses. That was her decision and the last thing she needed was to be bother about it every now and then but she can’t lie to herself and even the baby inside her knew that she wanted the man owning the 23 chromosomes of him/her as it kicked hardly every fifteen minutes.
Thirty منٹ later, she stopped after placing the red folder on سب, سب سے اوپر of another. She sighed as she looked at the files she already signed and there was a relief that ran on her spine but still, looking at the remaining 25 files at the other side of the dining table, she felt like running in a tunnel without its certain ending. She looked down at her bump, that made her felt uneasy since that morning, and began caressing to at least try to calm it down.
“Okay, okay, mommy’s going to stop now. آپ must be hungry, huh?” she کہا with a smile before standing up. Just when she moved to the باورچی خانے, باورچی خانہ she noticed she had wet the chair she seated on. “Ohgod, not now,” she mumbled realizing her contractions aren’t just ordinary contractions and that was when feared struck her, and panic as well. Another contraction hit her and it wasn’t simple, it was unbearable now, that made her yell and clutch her bump in pain.
In between it, she tried her best to walk to the باورچی خانے, باورچی خانہ counter, got the phone and managed to dial House’s office number but it was the answering machine that answered her. She tried to dial Wilson’s number instead and there was finally the ring she’s looking for.
“Yah, Wilson ---- Can آپ come here in less than twenty minutes? – Uh, Tammy isn’t here and I got Tria to buy some goods and ---” she stopped and didn’t mind the سوالات her سٹار, ستارہ oncologist kept asking. She looked down at her legs and the thing she feared most is running between them, blood. “What? --- Can آپ just, OW!” she tried to finish her sentence but pain took over her body.
Back in the hospital, Wilson was standing سے طرف کی the clinic’s nurse’s station when he got the call. Nurses looked at him as he grew pale the moment he heard Cuddy’s voice at the other end of the line. Apparently, House just gotten out from one of the exam rooms at the same time and he was about to open his mouth to mock his friend when Wilson کہا in a panicky voice, “House, Cuddy’s gone to pre-term labor!”
