Chapter 4 – Meaning

Hugh was shocked at her outburst, in all those years he had known her he hadn’t seen her cry a lot and certainly not like this. He didn’t know what to do other than cuddle her close to him softly stroke her back and hair, hoping it would give her the comfort she so obviously needed. ‘I-I’m sorry…’, she sniffled, ‘it’s just.. I…’, she couldn’t tell him. She didn’t know how. How do آپ tell your best friend آپ had a very vivid sex dream about him and for several hours had been under the illusion that it had all been real? If she told him that he would surely think that she was in love with him, not to mention his thoughts about her having gone insane…

‘Lizzie?’, he whispered as he still felt teardrops sinking into his shirt. ‘I-I can’t tell you…’, she mumbled. ‘O… is it that bad or…? آپ know آپ can tell me anything, right? I would never judge آپ یا anything, I just want to make sure you’re okay…’ Lisa sighed, why did he have to be so considerate, so gentle, so… so Hugh. ‘It’s just… I don’t want to upset you…’, it was the last defense she had. ‘You could never upset me.’ She loosened her grip on him and gently lifted her head so their eyes could meet. His eyes looked so soft, so understanding. ‘I-I had a dream... it ehm… about you.’, she stumbled, quickly looking away from him. Hugh frowned, a little surprised at the revelation, ‘Wh-what kind of dream?’ ‘We ehm…. we kissed…’, it was the best she could do. She couldn’t tell this friendly, gentle, shy and sensitive Hugh that she dreamt about them having very hot and sweaty sex.

Hugh let out a soft ‘O…’ and nodded before Lisa decided she should tell him a little more. ‘And well.. it was so vivid that… when I woke up this morning, I thought it had really happened, because well… آپ knocked over a lamp when آپ were here and the lamp was on the ground exactly like in my dream when I woke up. So when آپ told me آپ had slept all night… I kind of… freaked.’ Hugh closed his eyes trying to process what Lisa had just told him. ‘Wow…’, he whispered. ‘Hmmm… I’m sorry Hugh, it’s… it doesn’t mean anything it was probably just a dream.’ Hugh nodded, ‘I know… and the lamp is probably the result of sleepwalking یا something right?’ Lisa raised her shoulders, ‘I don’t know… I think so…’ ‘Liz? Can I ask آپ something?’ She looked up at him again, ‘Sure…’ ‘What did آپ feel when آپ thought it had really happened?’ Lisa blushed, ‘I-I… ehm… mostly confused.’ Hugh nodded then hugged her closer.

‘Hugh? Are آپ okay? I wouldn’t want this to jeopardize our friendship یا anything.’ ‘I’m fine… I mean it was just a dream right? I sometimes have dreams about آپ too. No big deal.’ Lisa’s eyes shot upwards to meet his, ‘You dream about me?’ This time it was Hugh’s turn to blush. ‘Y-yeah… but then again, I don’t think آپ are truly a man if آپ haven’t ever dreamt about Lisa Edelstein…’, he turned it into a joke. Lisa smiled. ‘Good to see آپ smile again.’, he said. ‘Hmmm’ ‘You think you’re gonna be okay now?’ Lisa buried her head in the crook of his neck. ‘Yeah, as long as I can tell my dreams from reality in the future I think I will be okay.’ ‘Good… آپ got me really worried about you.’, he کہا as he played with her hair. ‘Thank you…’, she mumbled as yawned tired of the emotional drain the morning had been. ‘Maybe آپ should go back to sleep for a few hours…’ ‘Hmmm sounds good, hope my dreams are a little less vivid.’ ‘I hear those superman dreams are good, maybe آپ should try to have one of those… If I were آپ I would picture Robert in one of those suits, then at least آپ really know it was all a dream.’, Hugh winked. Lisa giggled and rested in his arms for a few مزید منٹ before turning to sleep on her double bed…
