French Interview with Jo Mention - English Translation

Okay, first things first. I know that when آپ read the عنوان of this article, آپ may have freaked out. I know that I did when I first became aware of the existence of this interview. But I just want to tell آپ beforehand, it really isn't as bad as it sounds. I freaked out, yes, but that was before I translated the whole interview for myself. Now, it is evident that the content can be interpreted in different ways.

(Please take note that I'm a high school French student, and I didn't really use a translator, so I took some liberties with the translating...French-speaking people, please don't be offended سے طرف کی this crappy translation)

(Crappy translation of a مزید poetic French title): “Far سے طرف کی the eyes, but close سے طرف کی the hearts” (basically, they are separated physically but not emotionally)

Hugh Laurie, who lives in Los Angeles, left Jo Green, his wife, and their three children, Rebecca (born in 1993), William (1991), and Charlie (1988), in Great Britain. “It was a decision that we made together. We were very attached to the great education in the UK. I’m not saying that the educational system in America is bad, but I did not feel an affinity with its methodology. آپ can’t uproot teenagers like that either. That hasn’t stopped us from Twittering, e-mailing, Facebooking, and Skyping; we are hyperpointus (?) in terms of communication.

(I'm now skipping to the part in the interview where Jo is mentioned...(not سے طرف کی name though, mind you))

In a promo picture, we see House holding a lollipop in the form of a heart, with the words “Love sucks” on it. Is this from experience?

Not as far as I’m concerned! House has his own theory of love. I have mine. I know that without the love of my wife and my family, I would be completely disorientated. Love, for me, has been a sort of GPS; it lets me have confidence in myself and less self-destructive tendencies. If it had been me, I would rather have written “Love is complicated”. But that’s not possible. It would have taken up too much space. It would have required a much larger lollipop, and thus my face would not have been visible. یا the words could have been written on my face, instead of the lollipop!

I just want to put my two cents in:

First of all, Hugh never mentions Jo's name, which I take to be a good sign. The one big thing was "the love of my wife" part, which could have been a mistake in the translation. However, if he really did say that, the fact that he doesn't say "I love my wife" indicates that he knows that Jo loves him, but not necessarily that he loves her back.

Secondly, there's a contradiction. Once again, it could just be a translation thing. But he talks about "Twittering, Facebooking, etc." with his family back in England, but I'm pretty sure Hugh once کہا that he does not Tweet.

Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, is the "Love is complicated" thing. He could easily have کہا "Love is wonderful", "Love is great" یا some such other thing that a happily married man would say. Instead, the fact that he sees love as "complicated" is saying something in and of itself. Of course, as a Huli, I see this as meaning "my wife still loves me, and yet I love another woman...but I don't dislike my wife, I just find my love for this other woman to be stronger. Love is complicated".

I'm sincerely hoping that there are no other Hujo mentions in the rest of this interview (from the pics on Twitter that I found, there doesn't seem to be any). If I am right, then this actually bodes WELL for Huli, whereas in the beginning I thought it was the confirmation that we are all delirious. I really want to know your thoughts, though. Please تبصرہ and discuss!!

lovelyhuddy Ok my thoughts: It's funny how he says "Love" has given him more confidence and to be less self destructive. I don't think that is Jo doing that, I think that would be Lisa. So unless he is seeing a therapist for his marriage why would he be more confident with Jo unless something has changed. He didn't seem to have that confidence before with her. Idk weird article but does mention some recent stuff.

HouseMindFreak A therapist for his marriage? Sounds contradicting when he was flirting with Lisa on the TVGuide interview, and being 'closer' to Lisa with Upfronts and never has mentioned Jo or should I just say his wife since he didn't say her name...not mentioning someone's name is a bad sign. When someone uses a person's name that makes it more personal, if they don't its less personal...do I make sense?. Unless the therapist told Hugh to have an open marriage or flirt with your co-star to feel better. Sorry to sound sarcastic.

HouseMindFreak @LH You weren't sarcastic either...I guess at times like this we all get a little touchy. This interview still sounds like a mix of old, some new, and a little bit of a cover up in a way...

turtlebay82 Great point. And wasn't Stephen so in shock when he learned Hugh had an fb account for his Blues Album that he posted something on fb or twitter about it? Stephen being his closest friend, I find it hard to believe he isn't aware that Hugh is a closeted fb, twitterer, etc. Although, that said, I think GY said he believes Hugh has a twitter account out there that no one is awere of. But I don't know if you could ever trust anything out of that guy's mouth.

HouseMindFreak I think Hugh had a temporary Twitter account when he and Lisa did a questionaire through Twitter. But Hugh said he doesn't understand Twitter and doesn't participate in it. About the FB blues album account, that is not exactly ran by Hugh himself. Once you sign a record deal the record company will put up a FB account to gain more attention, so the record company pretty much handles that. Hugh probably doesn't even use that account. BTW, I don't know anything with European magazines, but I had a thought since this interview kinda contradicts itself in many ways. Is there any chance this could be a tabloid of some sort? Every time there's an interview that kinda brings up old stuff but has a few new stuff in it always turns out a tabloid.

HugeEgoSorry *pops out* Interesting reading =) I don't have anything to add about the confusion this article ensues b'c most of you guys have already said it; but in connection to HMF's 'tabloid' comment, I also wanted to ask this. Not that I'm being condescending to French people and this isn't about HLforever's article translation. I just wanted to know if the translation from Hugh's words, which we all know is English, were done perfectly to French or close enough by the interview themselves. I know this kind of problem b'c here in the Philippines, we have some trouble translating English words to Filipino and vice versa. There are words that wouldn't translate perfectly even though one will spent an entire day to find one. I guess this is one of the reason why some confusion in our part rises. About Hugh's twitter account, I remember reading an article that he said he has a twitter account. If my memory serves me right, he made last 2009 for the sake of trying the new trend of the world. But unlike Stephen and most probably his kids, he didn't like it and he just leave it alone. I remember he said something about how can someone make a complete thought out of 140 characters, he might just as well write a haiku (a Japanese form of poetry). So he did had one but now he might not be using it.

HuddyBea I am pretty sure he said he doesn't tweet and doesn't like to. He and Lisa made their accounts just to have those convos with the fans and never used them a second time. 99,9% sure :)

LaurieLover Mmmmm, I do believe His Lordship is a bit of a "dark horse." This is VERY interesting, LOVE is complicated!!! Even in the strongest relationships. We are all individuals with differences. Some days we are so in love we can't think of life without the other person and other days we could cheerfully strangle them. Add celebrity, distance, seperation and an undeniable almost tangible attraction to a female co-star and friend and you have a HUGE complication. HUGH is a typically repressed Upper Class Englishman. They do not gush or fawn or any other thing over each other, it is just not part of their "makeup". They are very reserved and especially when it comes to anything personal and physical. There are now more than a few unanswered questions: His absent wedding ring, wife and children in LA. His work schedule this past summer. The HUDDY arc in S7 ( this alone would make my head explode if I was Jo) The glaring obvious HULI relationship! His GPS remark tells me that the love of his wife and family help to keep him on the right path. And also metaphorically helps him find his way home. His wife has always been a behind the scenes kind of person, she avoids the cameras if she can. So his not saying her name could be just par for the course. He never has before, actually saying the words "I love my wife" in an interview is never going to happen, I can't recall him even saying that about his children. He says things like; "my three do nothing but delight me." The absence of a "I love my wife" is really not THAT significant. The fact that he does is a GIVEN !!! If you are unsure of Hugh Lauries love for his wife, listen to Dresert Island Discs. You can tell from that interview that he really loves Jo. She is not there just until he finds something better. I very much doubt either Hugh or Jo would consider an open marriage. I am sure the Facebook and Twitter inclusion was a liberty taken by the reporter. Hugh himself has said he does not Tweet (Johathen Ross Show last year), but he has said that he speaks to his family daily either by phone or skype. And they do email each other. Definatley makes for interesting conversation.

HuddyBea I was looking for that too @satine. Well, my two cents on the matter, for what it's worth (I feel a little worn-out today, forgive me) - He never mentions Jo. Naming her I mean, which as @HMF had pointed out is significant. If you want to let the world know you love someone, you usually do that. On the other hand @LL is right: he is repressed, English...doens't fit his profile. - Point number two: The love of my wife. This might also be interepreted as affection and support. Once again, even if he is with Lisa, that doesn't mean he had forgotten about his wife and all the things she had done for him and helped him through. - As @Anon pointed out the lollipop thing isn't new. I have already read it somewhere, so this french interview might be not trustworthy. They had probably cut, copy and paste stuff from everywhere. That being said, whatever piece of news comes out...whatever paper interview...doesn't change the fact that at this point, we just have to wait for a divorce announcement. And if it doesn't happen by Christmas, you know me...I am an hardcore, but...we need to keep out feet on the ground. It's also true, I keep saying that I can't make sense out of that TVGuide interview on top of everything if he is still married. So...fingers crossed and I'll try to stay positive. But as far as this acrticle is concerned, I doubt it's a big deal.

hughlisafan Basically, the final quote from Hugh in the boxed area says: "This does not prevent us from using twitter, email, facebook and even skype, there is a hyper/excessive amount of activity in terms of communications." Hypertonus used in this way means an excessive amount of something, in this case communications. And, while I too read Fry's account that Hugh is not great at using this technology, Hugh did use 'us' in his statement. So, he's not just talking about himself but his children, who I imagine do use this technology. Although Hugh may not use it to contact people in that way, I'm sure he has it so that his children may contact him in any way that they wish, and that he can stay abreast of their activities while they are separated. That's not weird. He's a father people! As for the part about his wife, for those who can't read French it's at the top of the 2nd image and begins: "Je sais que sans l'amour de ma femme, de ma famille..." He says here that he knows he'd freak without the love of his wife, his family. Present tense. He never mentions Jo's name no matter what the interview so the fact that he doesn't here is really irrelevant. He essentially goes on to say that their love has allowed him to gain confidence in himself and to make him less self-destructive. And, while he does compare love to a GPS system, he's not talking abstractedly but in relation to the love his family has provided him; in this case he means love has guided him away from a life of self-destruction and a lack of confidence. He's actually being really f'n romantic!!! Hugh is such a romantic! Seriously, he really is. This sounds like really bad news if you're a HuLi tho, which I am. This has shaken my resolve. I'm wavering on the edge here....

ma-do many of the articles published in France for the programs of TVs are all more or less reworked and replanted with news gleaned through the seasons. Écouter Lire phonétiquement

arasu In my personal opinion, if this article was really meant as the "I-love-my-wife-so-stop-speculating-Huli" shout out to the fans, Hugh would've chosen to say it in a more well known/reputable media. Also, no disrespect to the French people, I think the shout out would've been more effective and reliable if it was in an American/English magazine. That way it is more accessible for more people without risking any lost-in-translation errors. So I myself won't be giving this article too much thought, since I am still questioning the credibility of this magazine/interview.

I can not believe I finally brought this to the end.
It's a roller coaster of emotions. Or, I just feel like it is. O.o XD
Anyway... I want to say thanks to all of آپ that waited patiently for me to get better and finally post a chapter after chapter :P
And here it is... I am not yet sure I'm fully content with the epilogue, but it's really close to what I've imagined, (the other version of it couldn't be done with just 24 chapters I've wrote :P )
Thank آپ again... I'm not sure if I have a new Huli FF in mind... but if I do, you'll be the first ones to know...

When she was walking among the trailers, she noticed Hugh strolling and reading the script. My theory on the BabyLi XD

ok, so guys,
It started as a funny thing and it grew into something completely out of hand.

As much as I would LOVE a Huli baby, I think we have been jumping to conclusions, AS always.

First of all,
don't آپ think we are underestimating Lisa with this?
She's a mature woman, she would know better than let herself get pregnant with a married man.
First of all, what would she say
"I don't have a boyfriend, but آپ see I got knocked up?"
I don't think so.
She knows better.
Seriously, she would endanger her career and Hugh's as well, and I don't think she's a person who is focused on navel gazing.
