Javert thought he was doing good, the thernadiers knew they were doing wrong

I agree with Alchemistlover. If the movie was all about Javert from his perspective, it would seem like he is the good guy.

I think there is a big difference between villan and antagonist. Javert is clearly the antagonist - the opposite of Jean Val Jean. However, I agree that he is not a villan and was only doing what he thinks is right.

I know that in the play they're just comical but in the book they're really evil whereas Javert thinks he's doing the right thing.

I think that really Javert is a nice guy but the Thenardier's have it in for everyone especially msr, they are just plain evil to anyone they set eyes on!

Javert believed what he did was right, he became a prisoner of his own self, a prisoner of the 'law' , because it blinded him.
But I agree with goose29 Javert is the antagonist.
The Thenardiers are villain people, sick and disgusting. They treated the child awefully, they told lies and lies to her mother and t JanValijean. And the list goes on and on.

Javert is the antagonist, but not a villain. The Thénardiers are villains.

There's no evil in this story but I say Javert is the most dangerous antagonist of all Les Mis characters. The people of Paris tremble when they hear or see him everywhere. EVEN Mr and Mrs Thenardier. He's like a French Lord Cutler Beckett apart from the fact that people fear him everywhere.
