If in the current position and the current squad and then all these legends (... and Alan Smith) in their prime (i.e. Alan Smith at Leeds United as a striker), I'd still pick 'van the man'. We need a clinical striker and van Nistelrooy is that striker.

Best was a winger (so do you really want to mess with Ronaldo's place in the team?)

Beckham was also a winger (I'd choose Best over Beckham but Ronaldo over both of them)

Why have Schmeichel when we have van der Sar?

Ole Gunner Solksjaer was immense off the bench, but 90 minutes wasn't really his thing. He'd be my third choice after van Nistelrooy and Cantona though.

Cantona is a living legend! He'd be my second choice!

Keano was king, but now we have Hargreaves so it's not like we NEED a defensive midfielder.

Alan Smith = NON-ISSUE!
