“NCIS” Season 14 on CBS is expected to look and feel very different from its previous seasons now that one of its series originals, Michael Weatherly, has left the show. New cast member Wilmer Valderrama has teased dynamic changes during the Comic-Con, saying the addition of new characters will be “challenging the genre” of procedural drama.
Spoiler alert: This update contains “NCIS” Season 14 spoilers. Valderrama himself has shared some production updates on his Twitter page.
Valderrama’s “NCIS” character is Special Agent Nicholas “Nick” Torres. The “That ‘70s Show” alum was last seen in “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 12 (ABC) as romantic musician Kyle Diaz and in the TV adaptation of “Minority Report” (Fox) as modern-day cop Will Blake.
Valderrama has told the media Nick Torres is not replacing Tony DiNozzo. The actor is also not replacing Michael Weatherly. Valderrama even said he is not going to fill in any shoes, but he would definitely have his own. Torres has been described as a longtime NCIS agent who has gone missing after a deep cover assignment.
‘NCIS’ Season 14 cast members: The list got longer!
“The dynamic of the show has definitely evolved into something else,” TV Line quotes Valderrama. The actor also revealed his character will have ample screen time with Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
There will be more faces – three of them new – in the opening credits of “NCIS” Season 14. The other new “NCIS” cast members are Jennifer Esposito and Duane Henry (seen with Sarah Clarke in the 13th season finale).
The three are joining series veterans Mark Harmon, Pauley Perrette, Sean Murray, Brian Dietzen, Rocky Carroll and David McCallum. Emily Wickersham is still a part of the cast, and she is now on her fourth season, having joined after the departure of Cote de Pablo’s Ziva David.
This season is also a first for Ziva David fans, who have lost hope that Cote de Pablo would return. The 13th season finale reveals Ziva has died. To console fans, NCIS writers introduced the three-year-old Talia, Tony\'s daughter with his beloved Ziva.
Valderrama has tweeted the title of the first episode of “NCIS” Season 14: “Rogue.” It seems his character Nick has gone rogue – or it would appear that way in the beginning. See his tweets below:
