Orphan Black سٹار, ستارہ says season 5 faces the patriarchy head-on 

clones itself one last time, and that fifth and final season will find our heroes facing a new and mysterious adversary.

During a visit to EW this week, star Tatiana Maslany gave some insight into P.T. Westmorland — the founder of Neolution who has apparently been alive for more than a century — and what he represents in the world of the BBC America series.

“P.T. sort of symbolizes the head of the snake,” she explained. “He’s the top of everything and so the source of a lot of answers to the questions the clones have had for seasons, and that have put all of these people in jeopardy — and [he also] represents the patriarchal system that we’re all in that seeks to control us. So that’s, I guess, a theme of the season — and we’ve talked about that from season 1 — but we face it head-on this season.”

stars Kristian Bruun (Donnie), Jordan Gavaris (Felix), and Maria Doyle Kennedy (Siobhan) also teased the mysteries and power struggles to come.

“There’s a lot of interesting power shifts,” said Gavaris. “That’s an interesting tease — the power shift or the trading of power, or concession of power.”

That includes “proclone” Rachel Duncan (Maslany), seemingly in a position of greater power than ever before as the season begins.

“Rachel’s had a really interesting trajectory, and what I find so fascinating about Rachel is she is a clone but she pretends she isn’t,” said Maslany, adding, “It’s interesting, having her within the power of the system but actually she is controlled by it, and I think that’s an really interesting part of her.”
