And so King Julien attempted to organize a late night party. He did manage to throw one on Thursday night, but the party was such a bust (the room was very cramped, there was nothing to eat and King Julien insisted that everyone form a conga line even after several animals made it clear they did not want to). The اگلے night, Julien announced that he was going to be throwing a سیکنڈ party and the سیکنڈ he did so nearly all of the animals that were listening walked away, mumbling about how they would write notes to themselves reminding them not to go. Julien, frantically trying to think of something to save his party nights, went to everyone he could for help, including the penguins and Marlene, none of whom shared any interest in helping Julien revamp his parties. The chimps, on the other hand, were delighted.
“Oh, there’s nothing like a good party!” exclaimed Mason. “As long as that party has some good music. Now Phil and I didn’t go to the party last night…Phil accidentally hit a man in the face with some poo and the zoo was threatened with a very expensive lawsuit…long story…but based on the other animals I talked to it sounded as though your موسیقی could use a little enhancement.”
King Julien was not following any of this, as he was distracted (though a little grossed out) سے طرف کی Phil picking his nose a few feet behind Mason. “What was that?” he said, pretending to clean out one of his ears.
“Simply put, you’re the only one in the zoo that like conga music, Julien. آپ need to give the public what they want,” کہا Mason. Julien still didn’t look like he understood.
“For goodness sake man!” کہا Mason impatiently. “Just do something besides a party every night! Have the animals audition if they want, then put on a play…” Mason was going to فہرست about twenty مزید ideas, but Julien had heard enough. “Brilliant!” he said, and dashed off. Mason shrugged and turned back to his game of chess he was playing with Phil, only to find that Phil had gotten boogers all over several pieces.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kowalski was busy sitting سے طرف کی his organ, contemplating things. His big plan had been ruined سے طرف کی Skipper because, according to Julien, the penguins had a private funeral for him, not the big public mass like Kowalski was hoping for. Since Skipper had announced to the entire zoo that Kowalski was armed and dangerous under the sewers, they would all believe that he was still alive and would likely be extra careful and alert. Kowalski swore as he realized what he had to do.
‘Do something bad’ he thought. ‘Something that would make everyone blame me. Then Skipper یا one of the others would have to stand up and explain to everyone that I was dead. Then, with them out of my feathers, I can complete my plan.’
With that, Kowalski walked over to the other side of his organ and opened the secret compartment that Rico had found earlier. He immediately grabbed the bundle of cloth sitting on the سب, سب سے اوپر of the shelf.
“Yuck” Kowalski کہا as he began to pull the cloth he had on his face off. “It’s all sticky.”
As soon as it was off, he wadded it up and threw it into a corner of the room. “I guess that lotion helped,” he said. “Now it doesn’t hurt at all.”
Cautiously, Kowalski poked the side of his face that had been wrapped up in the cloth. He felt several large bumpy areas and some actual depressions where he suspected the acid had burned holes right down to the bone. He flinched, not because it hurt but because it just isn’t fun to feel your bones when touching your face. Not really wanting to know what it looked like, he just took the rest of the cloth, lay it out on the میز, جدول and cut an eyehole out with a small piece of metal lying on the floor. Then he wrapped it around his face until it was touching the side of his beak and tied it in a double knot, adjusting it so that he could see perfectly well out of the eyehole.
He then located a shard of glass on the floor which had been there since he could remember and looked at his reflection. He thought it actually looked sort of cool until he realized that there was a huge knot on سب, سب سے اوپر of his head which kind of ruined the look, so he reminded himself to fix that in a minute. He then continued to adjust the cloth, trying to get it so that it covered a large hole in the side of his beak.
The cloth was very scratchy and irritating, so he made a mental note to get something مزید comfortable to cover his face with. When he was finished, he walked back over to the organ and opened several مزید doors in the side of the organ, which seemed to be مزید of a storage chamber than an actual instrument. He pulled out a large piece of black cloth from a big compartment that had several holes in it. He slipped it on like a شرٹ, قمیض and tied it up tightly, then pulled another piece out which looked like a penguin-sized suit, which was also completely black. He put that on over the first cloth, then looked at himself in the piece of glass again. It was so dark he could hardly tell what he was looking at, so he moved directly under a candle. Much better.
Kowalski liked it all right, it was kind of stuffy but it did make him look very distinguished and مزید importantly, completely dark, which made it easier for him to blend into the shadows. Also, no one would be able to immediately recognize him as Kowalski; if he was out in the park someone looking at him would not be able to tell it was a پینگوئن, پیںگان in the suit and may mistake him for a different animal.
Kowalski slammed shut the compartments he had emptied and walked over to one on the far side of the organ. He opened it and on the bottom of the compartment inside was a small black hat, just the right size for him. Being one of the many things Kowalski had been constructing the last week, he was particularly fond of the hat despite the fact that it was actually a miniature بولر, گیند باز hat, not a سب, سب سے اوپر hat like he wanted (a سب, سب سے اوپر hat took too long to make and Kowalski didn’t figure wasting all the time and extra materials to make it would be worth the trouble).
Kowalski picked up the hat and placed it on his head, tilting it ever so slightly so it completely covered up the giant knot on سب, سب سے اوپر of his head. Then he reached back into the compartment and grabbed what was under the hat. A small knife.
It was a kind of switchblade that Kowalski used to employ as a cutting چھری whenever he needed to cut something for one reason یا another back when he was still with the team. He picked it up and placed it in a little pocked on the side of his suit. He didn’t particularly cherish the idea of using the چھری as a weapon but carrying it made him feel safer and مزید protected.
Now that he was all dressed, Kowalski walked to the small side passage he had been lurking in for a few days after he left the penguins for the first time. As soon as he got to where the hole was, he discovered it was no longer there. He wondered if Skipper had shoved something over it, but then found that he had just stuffed it with some tissue paper. Carefully, he poked his head against the دیوار اگلے to the hole, trying to hear if anything was going on inside. After a few moments without hearing anything, Kowalski, standing on the left side of the hole, reached up and grabbed part of the paper, then pulled it out of the hole.
Knowing Skipper, Kowalski was expecting an alarm to go off and hear footsteps rushing towards the hole. But there was nothing. Kowalski peeked through the hole and saw that the پینگوئن, پیںگان HQ was completely empty, but as Kowalski was glancing around the front door slammed, causing him to jump and hit his head on the ceiling. Private was now standing in the room, glancing nervously around. Kowalski ducked to the side and stuffed the paper back in the hole, hoping Private would not notice. But Kowalski didn’t need to be afraid; Private was rustling around in the corner of the room اگلے to the bunks. After a منٹ the noise stopped, some quick footsteps sounded and the door slammed again. Kowalski again removed the paper and looked back into the room. Immediately he noticed several مونگفلی, مونگ پھلی مکھن winkie wrappers on the floor; Private was obviously in a hurry. As he was looking intently across the room, something fluttered down out of the air and landed right in front of the hole. Again, Kowalski jumped but realized it was just a piece of paper that resembled the park map, but Kowalski could tell that it was not.
Kowalski tried to reach through the hole and grab the paper, but it was such a small hole he could barely get the front of his flipper through it. Finally, he twisted his flipper in a way which allowed him to get a few مزید inches of it through. Sort of anxious about the fact that he might get his flipper stuck, Kowalski quickly grabbed the paper and pulled it back through.
It was a piece of plain white paper, the kind آپ can buy a huge stack of at any store. On it was what looked like a long فہرست of names. At the very سب, سب سے اوپر written in fairly large letters was ‘WOULD آپ LIKE TO BE A STAR? COME TO THE ZOO PLAZA AT 7:00 P.M. TONIGHT FOR YOUR CHANCE TO BE A سٹار, ستارہ PERFORMER IN OUR ADAPTATION OF ROSSINI’S ‘THE BARBER OF SEVILLE’.
Below that, in much smaller letters, was a فہرست of the first names of all the animals who were apparently auditioning for a role in the play, followed سے طرف کی their species. There was a huge section decided to animals that lived in the park, mostly consisting of squirrels, possums, pigeons and the occasional raccoon. A much smaller section had about ten animals from the zoo. Kowalski quickly scanned the list, then tapped a section with his flipper. Written on that line was ‘Marlene’, followed سے طرف کی ‘otter’.
Kowalski was amused and surprised at the fact that someone was actually going to make a production of Barber of Seville at the zoo. He was certain the chimps were behind it, but what he hadn’t counted on was the fact that so many animals were planning to audition. He was prepared to bet that almost none of them actually knew what the Barber of Seville was and were auditioning in the hopes of becoming even a minor character so that they could go into the zoo and escape their old life for at least a few days. Kowalski knew that a lot of the wild animals in the park, especially the ones that people didn’t like as much, had pretty rough lives and would be glad for any chance to take a break from them.
Kowalski decided to read the rest of the animals in the zoo who were participating. Darla the orangutan was the سب, سب سے اوپر one on the list, followed سے طرف کی several animals that Kowalski had seen around the zoo but never learned their names. At the very bottom of the list, Kowalski was surprised, were Maurice and Private. Kowalski got a sudden mental image of Private wearing a powdered wig and singing tenor on a large stage. While he speculated that it would be quite awhile for Private’s voice to change enough to become a tenor, the thought of it still made Kowalski laugh. Hopefully he wouldn’t have to ruin anything just yet.
