For the past decade and a half, P!nk has been inspiring the world through her fierce tunes and even fiercer attitude. Now, after countless hits, the respected artist is taking a shot at helping to put a stop to child malnutrition by teaming up with UNICEF. Yesterday, it was officially announced that P!nk has been appointed the newest UNICEF Ambassador. More specifically, the Grammy Award-winning artist is serving as the UNICEF Kid Power National Spokesperson in order to raise awareness about UNICEF’s lifesaving health and nutrition programs around the world.
This past July, P!nk was offered the chance to witness first-hand the remarkable rejuvenating power of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) when she traveled to Haiti with UNICEF. In a recent informative video, the artist noted, “What was awesome was watching the kids eat the Plumpy’Nut, the emergency food ... within a week, they can go from severely malnourished to coming back to life and being happy again and playing, it’s a miracle food.”
According to a recent press release, during her stay in Haiti, P!nk “visited a health center for infant care where mothers can have their children vaccinated, as well as examined and treated for severe acute malnutrition and attend breastfeeding courses.”
“I’m a mom, myself, and I know how important it is for my daughter to eat nutritious food so she can grow up strong and healthy,” P!nk stated in a UNICEF Kid Power PSA. “Millions of children around the world suffer from severe malnutrition – that means they aren’t getting the nutrients they need to survive, grow, and reach their full potential. So, I’m teaming up with UNICEF to end child malnutrition and now you can, too.”
The program that allows kids to help save kids’ lives is called UNICEF Kid Power. In an ingenious method of integrating the digital and the real world, kids get active with the UNICEF Kid Power Band when they “go on missions to learn about new cultures and earn points.” Those points “unlock funding from partners, parents, and fans, and funds are used by UNICEF to deliver lifesaving packets of therapeutic food to severely malnourished children around the world.”
Joining the cause is as easy as purchasing a UNICEF Kid Power Band at Target, then downloading the free companion App. The UNICEF Kid Power program is made possible through the generous support of Disney, Star Wars: Force for Change, and Target.
Yesterday, Caryl M. Stern, President & CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF announced to the press, “We are thrilled to have P!nk join us as the newest UNICEF Ambassador. As a passionate advocate for children and healthy living, P!nk demonstrates a deep commitment to our mission to put children first. We are excited that she is shining a light on the critical issue of malnutrition – which affects 1 in 4 children around the world – while continuing to support UNICEF Kid Power, and encourage families across the country to be part of the solution.”
Besides her work as a UNICEF Ambassador, P!nk also supports a wide variety of charities such as the Make A Wish Foundation, PETA, Ronald McDonald’s House, Autism Speaks, Human Rights Campaign, and No Kid Hungry.
