Compare Lord Byron's work to that of even one of his contemporaries - Percy B. Shelley. Here's a typical line from Byron: "The Assyrian came down like a wolf on the fold/ And the way he came down was a sight to behold..." Now here's a typical line from Shelley: "Evening, when the quiet east flushes faintly at the sun's last look..." Which one has the greater depth of poetic sensitivity and perception (ie 'soul')? Shelley wins easily.
