Poe was born on January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. A master of the macabre, he was the founder of the science fiction and mystery genre in literature. He wrote everything from literary criticism, to horror, poetry, a novel, short-stories and hundreds of essays. Today he is labeled the “Father of the Detective Story.”
