The 1995 Mr. Collins was perfect. He was absolutely ridiculous and stupid and always said the wrong thing. Mr. Collins in the 2005 version was just...short.

This one is really hard to choose...I thought they were both equally creepy and annoying, but David Bamber made me want to jump throught the screen and beat him up. lol

I adore both of them---Bamber's was maybe closer to the book, but they both made me squirm, haha. And I love the boiled potatoes part XD

for me David is mr Collins, no one can come close. I thought Tom looked to nice, and he seemed so insecure with low selfesteem(sp?) I didn't like to feel sorry for mr Collins, it wasn't right...

David's Mr Collins was a slime-ball that I wanted to smack around the face. He was jus so ewwww.... I love Tom Hollander but I felt he hadn't captured Mr Collins the way Bamber had. I agree with the post that poster that said it wasn't right to feel sorry for Mr Collins. I did in the 05 version and I was horrified!

Jane Austen said Mr. COllins was fat. David Bamber was and Tom Holander was not. Both were hilarious though.

The description in the book says it all..

Mr. Bennet: "There is a mixture of servility and self-importance in his
letter, which promises well."

Narration: "He was a tall, heavy-looking young man of five-and-twenty. His air was grave and stately, and his manners were very formal."

Bamber. Hands down.

This was a very very hard choice. Both actors portrayed Mr. Collins so well that I cringe and gnash my teeth every time they appear. No offense to David Bamber, but I think Tom's dry version of Mr. Collins takes the cake. I honestly don't remember Mr. Collins ever smiling much at all in the book and Bamber did a lot of that, which was a bit jarring.

Just how he had so much trouble getting out what he wanted to say, and how he talked with such admiration of Lady Catherine de Bourgh. I loved David Bamber too, especially how you could just see how obsessed and impressed he was with the rich, but something about Tom just got me. Especially how short he was!
