Its Mental Health Awareness Month! Come answer some questions!

So I literally spent all April getting hyped for some سوالات and مضامین I could write for this, then inevitably got so caught up in college and mental health stuff of my own that I ENTIRELY forgot it was until today where its half way through the year.

REGARDLESS! I decided Id put this here as a small contribution and to open up discussion XD Ill likely respond and reply in the تبصرے of this when I dont have a headache.

1) Do آپ have any close experience with mental health disorders either personally یا with someone close to you? How has it affected the person's life?

2) If آپ are really familiar with a disorder یا symptom, care to share some informations یا personal experience?

3) Do آپ go یا someone close to آپ go to therapy? What about take medication? What are your opinions on both?

4) If there was one thing youd want someone to know about mental health یا a disorder that آپ یا someone close to آپ struggles with, what would it be?

5) Is there anything آپ can do to help promote a better mental health?

6) Anything else to mental health on your mind that آپ feel like talking about?

1) Do آپ have any close experience with mental health disorders either personally یا with someone close to you? How has it affected the person's life?

I might talk about my BPD and my husband's autism

My BPD has been a constant struggle for me. I was always prone to angry outbursts, depression, and unhealthy attachments to people.
My husband's autism has kind of always been مزید of a problem for other people than it was to himself. He's perfectly content living in his own world of automotive shit and not really having a lot of friends, but not very many people accept him for what he is

2) If آپ are really familiar with a disorder یا symptom, care to share some informations یا personal experience?

Any information آپ need about either disorder can be found on wikipedia, so just look there.
Also, riku, the plural of information is just information, informations isn't a word

3) Do آپ go یا someone close to آپ go to therapy? What about take medication? What are your opinions on both?

I took anti depressants and see a weekly specialist for personality disorders every friday after work. I have to drive all the way to Albuquerque for it, and my dad has to pay for it because its expensive. I stopped taking the medication only because the doctor didn't think it was a good thing for my baby when I got pregnant.
Of course, that should illustrate my opinions on the topic. If the doctor tells آپ that آپ need a certain kind of help, آپ probably should do it.

As for my husband, he doesn't really need either. He had an occupational therapist and special education teachers in school, but as an adult he doesn't need anything except my love and support.

4) If there was one thing youd want someone to know about mental health یا a disorder that آپ یا someone close to آپ struggles with, what would it be?

Please forgive me. No, really, I say dumb shit and sometimes hurt people I love. آپ know all about that, it's happened to us once before. I don't mean any harm, but I'm really bad at that whole healthy relationships thing.

As for my husband, just know that he's bad at socializing and if he doesn't want to make eye contact, یا if he seems distant in a conversation, he's not being rude, he's just autistic

Also, riku, *you'd

5) Is there anything آپ can do to help promote a better mental health?

People just need to be able to accept themselves for who they are, and know to seek help when they need it. Some people think they can ignore their mental health and pretend it doesn't exist, and then they become miserable

6) Anything else to mental health on your mind that آپ feel like talking about?

Not really. Sorry I suck

1) Do آپ have any close experience with mental health disorders either personally یا with someone close to you? How has it affected the person's life?

Big oof-
I personally have depression and severe anxiety. I can't really do anything productive at all because I'm never motivated to do anything other than شاور and sleep. I even forget to eat pretty often so that's really unhealthy. Also sometimes when I get into a really bad dip in my depression I tend to be really irrational and shove most people away and people end up getting pissy with me over it.
As for anxiety, whoo boy-
I can't walk سے طرف کی myself because I get a crippling fear about pretty much everything and I can't even enjoy my time out lmao.
Also talking to people is awful, I can't bring myself to really speak up یا look people in the eye.
Also I can't sleep without a strong light ذریعہ یا else I'll have panic attacks and have to completely لپیٹ, لفاف کریں myself in my blankets and plug my ears before I can sleep in the dark. So that's a drain on the electric bill.
Pretty much living makes me tired lmao

2) If آپ are really familiar with a disorder یا symptom, care to share some informations یا personal experience?

Too lazy to tbh.

3) Do آپ go یا someone close to آپ go to therapy? What about take medication? What are your opinions on both?

I wish I could go to therapy یا something but my family is broke یا too busy-
As for medication, I don't really take anything prescribed.
I think both are alright, therapy is probably a bit better because medications can have some iffy side effects to them.

4) If there was one thing youd want someone to know about mental health یا a disorder that آپ یا someone close to آپ struggles with, what would it be?

Uhhhgh it's been کہا on Tumblr and all sorts of shit all the time but depression isn't something you'll get over eventually, it's just something آپ gotta hold off and it is possible to feel other emotions if آپ have depression, someone ain't faking cuz they get happy once یا twice.
Also that آپ really shouldn't push someone with anxiety past their limits to try to help them because I got a friend who does that and uh, it sort of makes me have a mental breakdown and makes me wanna just shut myself away for another solid ماہ before trying anything new again. Baby steps-

5) Is there anything آپ can do to help promote a better mental health?

Idk, honestly.
Try to be optimistic and get the best kind of help آپ can ig-

1) Yes, me and lots of people I know. The feeling of dread is almost always with me because of my anxiety, especially when I leave the house. I'm extremely tense a lot of the time when I shouldn't be. Relaxation in public is very, very difficult. I'm scared of normal, everyday things like talking on the phone and driving, which puts me at a disadvantage compared to my co-workers and classmates. Meeting new people I could potentially become close to almost never happens. I can never go anywhere new سے طرف کی myself. People get exasperated because I can't go سے طرف کی myself, which can damage a relationship. Etc. Honestly, I just don't know what it feels like to be... calm about something most of the time.

2) Exercise helps with anxiety. When you're anxious your body goes into the fight یا flight (or freeze) response and your muscles automatically tense up. سے طرف کی exercising, you're actually using those muscles for something instead of keeping yourself tense for hours.

3) I was forced to see a handful of therapists when I was a kid, but I never liked them because I was forced into it. I currently take anxiety medication, have been for years, and have slowly been increasing the dosage, but tbh I can't tell if it's working یا not. I actually think therapy is usually مزید important than medication because it's been proven to be مزید effective (excluding مزید severe cases such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder), but I'm currently unwilling to go to therapy again because that would just unleash even مزید anxieties right now.

4) Yes, concerning anxiety disorders: There is a difference between "This thing may make me uncomfortable, I don't want to do it" and "Doing this thing would be bad for my mental health right now, it's not worth it". For most people, a lot of the things that make them nervous fall under the former; for people with lots of anxiety problems, a lot of those things fall under the latter. For the love of God, don't be that asshat who forces someone with an anxiety disorder to do something that could potentially give them an anxiety attack because "it will be so rewarding when آپ finally excel at such-and-such!". While this is true, آپ also have to remember that our experience is most likely going to be very different from your experience. It's not that we're going to refuse to do the thing our whole lives, it's that getting used to it takes a lot مزید time than it does with you, and you're going way too damn fast for us to handle. We're just not ready to go at your pace.

5) آپ can promote mental health when promoting a healthy lifestyle. Physical health and mental health are interrelated; the kind of foods آپ eat and your activity level affects your brain - if آپ eat lots of جنک, فضول food and have an extremely sedentary lifestyle, you're at a greater risk for depression, for example.

6) Don't listen to those anti-recovery people on the internet. Just don't.

Personally I find medication an AID to therapy. They make symptoms easier to handle so therapy can be done.

And I just was like "Um.. okay. I mean I was planning 900 ways to kill myself the دن before writing it, and have way too many actual disorders, but if آپ wanna just disqualify all that I say because its positive, okay. Im not going to bother"

That sucks, man. And that's exactly part of the problem. If you're suffering from a disorder you're not allowed to be optimistic یا positive. Like, good luck with life with attitude.

1) Do آپ have any close experience with mental health disorders either personally یا with someone close to you? How has it affected the person's life?

Yes, a very close person has been struggling with depression since a horrible tragedy happened a few years ago. It`s been really hard, but with support and love from دوستوں and relatives, they`re slowly getting better.

2) If آپ are really familiar with a disorder یا symptom, care to share some informations یا personal experience?

With the same case of depression, it has totally changed person`s appetite (they`re eating much less, which has been concerning us), they have been struggling with insomnia, and they`re trying to keep busy all the time which is also reflecting on their health.

3) Do آپ go یا someone close to آپ go to therapy? What about take medication? What are your opinions on both?

As I know, the therapy helped, but the medication made it worse. It was hard with and without it, so they stopped using it and now are using homeophathic medicine.

4) If there was one thing youd want someone to know about mental health یا a disorder that آپ یا someone close to آپ struggles with, what would it be?

If a person says that they feel sad یا that they`ve been depressed, please, don`t respond with - 'just try to be happy' یا 'everybody has their problems'. آپ should talk to the person, listen to what they have to say and then try to decide the best way how to help them. And don`t leave them alone during hard times of their life!

5) Is there anything آپ can do to help promote a better mental health?

I guess, try to reason with dumbheads, doing the opposite of what I mentioned in my گزشتہ answer.

6) Anything else to mental health on your mind that آپ feel like talking about?

There have been times in my life when I myself was too overwhelmed with negative emotions and stress so that I felt like doing nothing and that was a really dark time. So, to anyone who is feeling bad, useless یا just in general is in a very bad place - hold on, sooner یا later it gets better! And I know there are people who think that life will be bad with living with their condition, but there is a lot of medicine for different cases, maybe آپ just need to try out something آپ haven`t yet. And remember, that there are people who care very deeply about you, maybe without آپ even noticing یا knowing!

Thank you. I try to do my best, because after going through my own dark times in life, I don`t want any of my دوستوں and relatives to feel that way یا worse. And yea, that 'try to be happy/more positive etc.' line is always so useless. Like, c`mon people know that and they want that, but it isn`t that simple.
