hatelarxene picked I agree:
lordalessan: "I'm surprised Grace Kelly's win for "The Country Girl" wasn't included. That Oscar that many thought should have been given to Judy Garland for "A Star is Born" was famously quoted as the "biggest robbery since Brinks!".

Abominogg: " I totally agree. That was a case of Grace Kelly (a notorious whore in the Hollywood scene who would lose her panties to anyone who could advance her career) fucking the correct important men, while Judy Garland earned her nomination on sheer talent (acting AND singing). Perhaps because it is an old, classic film that a YouTube channel overlooked it."

lordalessan: "I know!!! It peeves me when Grace Kelly was compared to be fair and clean to Marilyn Monroe being a slut when in truth, Kelly was no different (she was just reputable enough to hide it). WatchMojo has included films back to the silent era on their lists that I'm surprised this was overlooked."

Abominogg: "Totally right, and in fact, Grace Kelly was more of a slut (not that there is anything wrong with that, far be it for me to shame anyone, let alone sluts, God bless 'em all!) than the fragile Marilyn, but Grace's image was built on looking more "reputable." I'm certain a lot of Hollywood insiders laughed their asses off when Prince Grimaldi married her and turned her into the Princess of Monaco (the plot of "Pretty Woman", anyone?)."

lordalessan: "Yup, they probably did. Actually, I read a bio on Grace Kelly. Apparently, living as a princess wasn't as cut out as it seemed. Her sister in law and mother in law hated her, some people say it was probably because of the fact that she "went around" before marrying Prince Rainier."

musicaltheatregeek: "Kelly's sex life notwithstanding, people forget that 1954 was her banner year. She had five big hits that year: REAR WINDOW, THE COUNTRY GIRL, DIAL 'M' FOR MURDER, GREEN FIRE, THE BRIDGES AT TOKO-RI. She had also been nominated for Supporting Actress the previous year for MOGAMBO. So it's no surprise that the Academy awarded mainly for having such an outstanding year and for playing against type in COUNTRY GIRL, for which she "uglied" herself up. The Academy loves that.
Furthermore, Garland had burned bridges for her erratic behavior and was not well-liked in the industry. I too wish she had won, but she couldn't stop the Grace Kelly juggernaut."

lordalessan: "That is also an excellent summation of the _why_ behind the Grace Kelly triumph over Judy Garland. Thanks."

musicaltheatregeek: "speaking of Marilyn Monroe, Rainier actually scouted her first as a potential wife. She had just divorced DiMaggio and was then on strike from Hollywood and living with her business partner, photographer Milton Greene, and his wife, Amy, in Connecticut.
Though she considered the notion (though probably not seriously since she referred to Rainier as 'Prince Reindeer'), In the end, of course, she declined. She was committed to her career and a budding romance with Arthur Miller, and she wanted "respect" from the Hollywood community. (That last goal she never achieved, unfortunately.)
But Marilyn wasn't the princess "type." Then again, neither was Kelly. She just looked the part."
