Absolutely, May be because I haven't read the books or because of their length, I find these movies really boring and overrated. Have tried watching them on a friend's request quite a few times but I fail each time as they put me to sleep. Constant (& Mostly favorable) comparison with Harry Potter Series is another reason why dislike these movies. Harry Potter is an absolute favorite. Anyone can like it (Book reading not is essential) while TLOTR is pretty much impossible for a non book fan to watch.

I feel like I'd find them boring, though. Plus, I've seen a few clips and wasn't intrigued or impressed.

I do find them boring from what I've seen but I would sit down and give them a chance and watch the series. I have no interest in reading the books though.

Maybe. My dad loves it so I wouldn't mind watching it with him. He use to take me with him every Christmas to the movies to go see the LOTR movies. I always fell asleep without fail. But I was a kid and it was long. I'd give them a chance more so for the father daughter time.

^ Then I think you should definitely do this. After all its hard to get any family time after growing up.

It's not the best but I really loved the franchise a lot. The books were amazing too.

I've never read the books all the way through myself, and I've met plenty of other people that haven't read the books (or didn't when they first watched them) that thoroughly enjoyed the film. So I don't think it's impossible for someone that isn't a fan of the books to enjoy it. It's probably more so a matter of taste.

I personally love LOTR though. Not so much the Hobbit ones, but the original LOTR movies are some of my favourite films. My mom was a huge fan of the books so we were introduced to it pretty early on. It's still one of my favourite franchises and as I've grown up I've come to appreciate a lot of the artistry and technical feats that the films accomplished as I have come to understand the medium.

Total boring experience to me.

They are ok. I prefer the books.

What 8theGreat said, pretty much. Haven't read the books yet and I enjoyed the Movies quite a lot. Same for quite a few people I know. In the end, it is a matter of taste indeed !!!!

Love them! They're one of my fave movie series'. Aragorn is one of my all time fave movie characters.

The movies are pretty great, it's the books that're reeeally boring.

I adore this movie series so much! Middle Earth is my escape. I think the reason for that is partly because of the beautiful and calming scenery, and partly because there is so much emphasis on hope and optimism as opposed to depressing realism; I want to live in a world where there's always an Aragorn or a Gandalf to save the day, dammit! That's the beauty of The Lord of the Rings, after all; the good triumphs over evil and almost everyone upholds honor and kindness in the end, realism be damned. The soundtrack is so dramatic and exciting. Everything about these movies makes me feel so alive. No movie series can compare to LotR for me.

I like the books too, but not nearly as much as the movies. They're a bit dry and there isn't much emotional investment there for me, but the world itself still offers me the same escapism that the movies do. I think the writing style is beautiful and I love how Tolkien knew everything about the world and his characters; it makes Middle Earth feel all the more real to me.
