Personally during their date at Breadsticks I think it was a combination of him trying to relate to Quinn and make light of an awkward situation. Sam looks like he was trying real hard to impress Quinn. He wanted her to like him, like he liked her. So my guess is that he was trying to find a way to ease the awkwardness that was surounding them during the begining of the date. And to let her know that he admired her for being so brave.

It paying off in the end.

The lemon juice story was adorable. He was just trying to relate to Quinn while showing how be can make fun of himself. Quinn saw that and thought it was incredibly endearing, which is why she told him that it was a date. God I miss these two together so much. They were perfect!

Sam is always wanting to please Quinn. He wants her to see him as a picture perfect boyfriend. Thats why he holds off on the wacky Mathew Mcconaughey jokes and, some of his other dorky habits for a while. Sam is genuinely inlove with her. I think he is sweet and he never intentionally hurts her. They are deserving of each other.
