Chapter 2: Bernard Smith
After being taken away from her mother سے طرف کی people of the government, Lana was transported to the capital city of Akatsuki to be examined. The Spirit Amber in her left eye had captured the tall, cold mans interest so much, that he couldn't wait examined مزید research and experiment on the child.
Upon arriving in Akatsuki, the tall, cold man, roughly took Lana in his hands and walked into the building of the head government. The man walked through many halls until he came upon a large door guarded سے طرف کی two soldiers. The two immediately recognized who the man was and let him into the large room.
The room the man walked into was domed and consisted of five high stands, in which the head of the government sat. Standing very small in front of the tall stands was an old imprisoned weapons maker, presenting his newest weapon.
The tall man walked up to the man and moved him out of the way, stopping him in mid-sentence. The old man stumbled as he was pushed, but not being able to do anything, walked to the دیوار and waited for the cold man to leave. Immediately after, he heard a child begin to cry.
The man in the center of the stands stood and spoke...
"Artres Dark," he called the man,"Why have آپ brought us a child when we asked آپ to bring Anne Seeing? She is the one that may hold the key to curing a fatal sickness."
Artres Dark cleared his throat and held up the baby for all the head government to see...
"Sirs, this is the child of Anne Seeing who was believed to have a disease when she was born." he laughed with delight,"This child, has a Spirit Amber for an eye that was used to heal the child."
Everyone in the room gasped and looked at the child who had momentarily stopped crying.
"What do آپ propose we do with the child?" One of the head people asked.
"If آپ would allow me,"Artres answered,"I would like to immediately start an examination on the child and begin to experiment on her."
The leader of the five stood up to give permission to Artres, until a voice rang throughout the room.
"No!" yelled weapons maker.
The atmosphere in the room turned cold. Everybody was stunned.
"The child will die if آپ begin your scientific nonsense on her as a baby," the old man said,"Such a frail and new body would instantly die if she does not have love and affection. آپ would not be able to get any information off of her before آپ kill her. Then, آپ would never find a cure for that disease."
Artres, angered سے طرف کی the lower classes outburst, went over and held up his hand to strike him down when the head government stopped him.
The leader stood up and spoke.
"Bernard Smith, we have taken into consideration your request and have decided to hold off the examinations on the child."
"But sir," Artres protested.
The leader held up his hand for silence.
"We will give the child up to the age of seven to grow stronger for the examinations. In this time," he gestured to the weapons maker,"Bernard Smith, since آپ are so keen on the child's life, then آپ are ordered to take care of her for the اگلے seven years. آپ may teach the child certain things about the outside world, if آپ wish, but آپ must also continue your weaponry work."
Bernard Smith was happy that he had saved the child from a miserable fate, but also had a question.
"What about her mother?" he asked,"The child needs to know about her."
"The child's mothers name is Anne Seeing, a woman living in the deserted town of Coza Bel. That is all. آپ are dismissed," the leader said,"Artres Dark, take Bernard Smith back to his quarters."
Angrily, Artres Dark obeyed and walked the old weapons maker to his prison quarters.
He unlocked the door and pushed
Bernard Smith into the fairly large room. It consisted of a bed, a large میز, جدول for weapons making in the middle of the room, many, many books, a fireplace, and a small window. For a prisoner, the old man was treated very well.
Artres Dark shoved the girl into the old mans hands and gave her an evil grin.
"See آپ in seven years, my dear specimen," he کہا with an eerie voice,"I WILL experiment on you."
And with that, he slammed the door closed, locking it before he angrily stomped down the hallway.
Bernard Smith stood there and went through everything that had just happened. Had he really taken in a child so that she could live longer? Did he get the grandchild that he had always wanted?
He looked down at the baby in his arms. Her left eye was bright گلابی from crying and her right, Spirit Amber eye shown bright. She gazed up into the old mans kind face and giggled.
Bernard Smith smiled at the beautiful child.
"What is your name my dear?"
As he adjusted the child in a مزید comfortable position, Bernard Smith felt something in the pocket of the child's clothing.
Bernard Smith reached into the pocket to find a gold, charm bracelet. One charm attached to it was the initials, LS.
Bernard Smith laid the child onto his بستر and walked to his work میز, جدول to study the bracelet closer. He found a clasp on the initials, دکھانا that it could open and as he did, Bernard Smith found something beautiful.
Inside the LS of the charm bracelet was a picture of three people, a woman caring twin babies. He turned the charm around and read the words engraved into them.
"To my lovely, young daughter, Lana Seeing."
"Well, Lana Seeing," Bernard whispered as he rocked her to sleep,"Let's spend the اگلے seven years, happily with each other."
He stopped for a second.
"No," he thought,"Your going to live a happy life longer than that. I'm not going to let them experiment on you. I'm going to make sure that آپ live longer. I will pass down my life's knowledge into you. I am going to help آپ escape."
