Marvel announces ‘The Avengers: Infinity War’ will be two-part film

During Marvel’s mystery event the studio announced that

will be a two part film, with release dates in 2018 and 2019.

While fans had been speculating that Marvel may split the third

film, it’s now been confirmed by Marvel that the film will be titled

The first film will be released in May, 2018, while the second part will be released in May, 2019. While there had been rumors concerning a split, this is definitely surprising as it means the actors are either signed on for a lot more work, or we may be seeing some new heroes show up in the next few films.

points towards the war of the infinity stones and then later the infinity gauntlet, which has been at the core of all of Marvel films for the last half decade. The villain Thanos, which we saw in

, is looking to collect all the infinity stones to form the all-powerful infinity gauntlet.

During the event, Marvel showed a teaser video where Thanos is seen wearing the infinity gauntlet. While we’ve only been getting very little hints about each infinity stone, we saw

focus quite a lot on one of the stones. We imagine we’ll be seeing a bigger focus on the stones moving forward.

Splitting the film into two is a business decision, but it also gives the studio time to develop new characters which have been announced today, including Captain Marvel, Black Panther, and other superheroes which we’ll be seeing in

I’m so freaking excited!! Phase 3 is going to be AMAZING!! I keep saying it, but its gonna be true.

If the Guardians meet the Avengers in this I will have the biggest fangasm ever.

My only (and I mean *only*) problem with this recent bout of “split” movies, even the Twilight ones, which I think were finely paced and executed, is that they’ve chucked out the Harry Potter formula of releasing them less than one year apart. In my opinion, they year-apart release dates make them feel like two separate movies, “Part(s) 1 & 2″ be damned. When Deathly Hallow’s first half was released in November of 2010, followed by Part 2 in July, that felt much more like two parts of the same long movie. Hell, even the second and third Twilight movies were released just seven months apart from each other, less than the span of time between DH 1 & 2. What I’m getting at is that I’d really, really appreciate Marvel’s either renaming the fourth Avengers movie as that, Avengers 4, dropping the IG Part 2 subtitle, or move Part 2’s release date up to November or December, a perfectly fine time for a blockbuster release, arguably better than the super-clogged summer schedule. I know this sounds like (and, really, is) a small issue/gripe, but it’s endlessly frustrating to me.
