KovuDazven Guess they thought with such a widely known movie series that everyone would come see it and it would be a success. The comparisons/debates between TLK 1 and TLK 2 remind me of the comparisons between the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy of Star Wars. I wouldn't say they never should have made TLK 2, but just waited a longer while till they did have the proper funds for it, many who really enjoy the TLK series now were young then, I don't think it would have made too much of a difference to put it off 2-4 years, I am sure they could've had the funds then.

KovuDazven The second did have a message, it just wasn't given out very well. The message being of Unity and let go of hate and anger that lead to revenge which bring nothing good to anyone. Though this is kind of overused stuff just wanted to point out that there was a message.

littlelemon I've never seen The Lion King 2 and I want to see it even less after reading this. And truthfully, I never even knew there was a Lion King 3 ;) Rock music? Ugh. I'm sorry, I mean no offense to anyone who likes rock music, but... ugh... I just can't stand the stuff! Not my thing at all. What idiot thought they could get away with writing rock music for The Lion King? Disgusting. The Lion King has so much more meaning to it than that. As it is, I loved the music in the first one, and Can You Feel The Love Tonight was absolutely beautiful; so honest and heart-warming and just... simply beautiful. What!? How could they make Simba seem like that, he's a great father and king! "He's holding back he's hiding. But what I can't decide. Why won't he be the king I know he is, the king I see inside?" Nala would hardly sing that line in the first one if he was a bad king, would she? And when he actually becomes king, it's pretty darn obvious that he's going to be a wonderful king, just by the look on his face. And "Besides, this is my kingdom. If I don't fight for it, who will?" Bad king? I don't think so. And you can tell by the look on his face at the end that he'll be a good father too. Obviously. Just like Mufasa was. And I think there should be quite a few Simba/Nala scenes in the second one, 'cause their relationship is so lovely and, well, real. Unlike a lot of the relationships you get nowadays, where everyone goes and sleeps with whoever they want and cheat and end it so quickly, like Katy Perry and Russel Brand did. And I don't like the sound of Nala in the second one :L She's just not like that. She's sounds like she's spoiling Kiara, and I'm pretty certain she wouldn't do that. That's not her character at all. And if I had this Kiara for a daughter, I'd soon take her down a few notches. Little self-centred brat. Besides, teenager or not, it's kind of unrealistic for such wonderful characters as Simba and Nala to have a daughter like that. I hate her already, and I haven't even seen it :3 The Lion King 1 was amazing. The message was beautiful, the music was gorgeous, the characters were lovely, the story was incredible. I think I'll just stick to the first one, thanks.

And I have had crushes on the charicters. And if anything thretens or discrases the lion king 1 then I am too. That's why I don't like the lion king 2 beacause it is very dull and boring totally unworthy to be the sequil to such a great movie as the lion king.

RowenaRaven Wow, this is an old article (just a little), but when I read it, I wanted to comment and the true is that I’m totally agree with you (except for the part of Zira, I hate her and I hate her kids too but I’m agree that she is a copycat of Scar, but a boring villain like Zira can’t be compared with a great villain like Scar was) the lion king is my favorite movie ever (I really love that movie), but the lion king 2 just sucks (and even worse than that in my opinion) even when I was a kid TLK2 made me sleep, the story of Kiara and Kovu is just boring and mainstream (even if TLK2 was based on Romeo and Juliet, Kovu and Kiara can’t be compared with Simba and Nala’s beautiful couple and story, Simba and Nala are so much better couple, they are not a mainstream couple with a mainstream story and they really love each other). The first lion king movie is simply wonderful, awesome characters, a gorgeous soundtrack (the songs and the great instrumental) and a beautiful story, nothing of the second film can be compared to this wonderful movie. What I hate the most (apart of Kiara ò_ó) is the fact that Nala only appears in a few scenes. Simba’s attitude also bothers me because he is nothing like the first movie and I don’t even understand why Disney can allow that change of attitude in a great protagonist with a lot of good story like Simba and make him looks like a bad father, he is not like that. In the part where you mention Simba's mistake in Kiara, I think you forgot a detail, Simba and Nala went to the elephant graveyard because Mufasa tells Simba that he shouldn’t go there and then he is tempted by Scar, who tells him that only the brave lions can go there and after Mufasa saves him and Nala from hyenas, he tell his son the wonderful quote “Being brave doesn't mean you go looking for trouble” and Simba apologized for disobeying his father, Kiara just want to look for troubles without any sense since she was a cub, so the great quote of Mufasa was forgotten in TLK2, when Simba saves Kiara as cub, she only takes an arrogant attitude (I hate when people says that Simba overprotects Kiara and even people say it when she is just a cub, and Simba just wanted that someone take care of her (Timon and Pumba in this case) like Sarabi and Mufasa did when Simba was a cub with Zazu caring of him, that’s just the same but Kiara is just a naive brat) and when Kiara yells at simba "you will never be Mufasa" I just think that quote shows her IGNORANCE! that little ignorant, annoying brat, she doesn't even know mufasa or his relationship with her father and she not even know all that her father and mother have suffered, because she was not present in the wonderful story of the original film so she is an ignorant. I hate when people says "poor Kiara, she has a hard life because her father is overprotective (even after Simba discovered that Kovu was going to kill him people says Simba is a bad guy)" poor Kiara???excuse me but even that way Kiara's life is all rosy (but she is a naive and dependent girl who think that she needs Kovu to breathe) compared to Simba's traumatic life and all what he pass through his life, and Nala's life was also traumatic and very hard, there's no doubt. PS: Can you feel the love to night is the most beautiful moment and song in all the lion king series. Great article.

MotherofDolls Can I just say there are some understandable points in this (it helped me understand why people disliked this movie as I love this movie a lot), but I'm sorry to say the "rock music" statement is not correct. As someone who listens to a lot of rock music, metal music and a lot of other genres, I can quite easily tell you that the music in LK2 is not rock. "He Lives In You" is one of the most African-sounding songs in the franchise and it is actually used TWICE in the musical production of the Lion King. "Love Will Find A Way" has a similar sound to "Can You Feel The Love Tonight", however I have to break it to you that "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" - having just listened to it before making this comment - sounds more like an 80s song with a few African instruments put in the background. Also, "Love Will Find A Way" is sang by the two characters with no other characters involved (Timon and Pumbaa sang in "Can You Feel The Love Tonight"). If you can name me one song from Lion King 2 which sounds like "rock" I will be quite surprised since I have heard them all and the one that probably sounds the most like a rock song is "My Lullaby", which doesn't really sound like a rock song. Also, I recommend that you do go and listen to some rock music and other genres before deciding what genre the LK2 songs are because if I'm honest it doesn't look like you've revised the topic much. Also, just a side note, I'm surprised that you like LK3 since that just ruins the first movie. The second one doesn't ruin the first movie because it is a continuation. The third movie is set during the first film, so basically when you go back and watch the first film you need to remember that Timon and Pumbaa were in Scar's lair when he was about to sing "Be Prepared". I'm just saying this because you seem to state your passionate love for the first film when the third film clearly just ruins the idea of it. It would have been better as a TV movie with a different title as opposed to "The Lion King 3" when it clearly has nothing to do with being a third installment to the series, it is simply the first film from the perspective of Timon and Pumbaa while they run around and screw the entire first film up.

RowenaRaven I also think that the songs in the Lion King 2 doesn't sound like rock music, the songs (generally) and the soundtrack as well, sounds like an African music, but obviously the soundtrack in the Lion King 2 can’t be compared with the soundtrack in The Lion King (the original movie) I found the soundtrack in the second movie fastidious because is repeated constantly and…I don’t know… It’s annoying (I'm not the only one who thinks that) I can see (or hear) all the love that Hans Zimmer puts in the original movie, it’s a wonderful feeling and with those scenes?! All those goosebumps and tears, OMG! while the soundtrack in the second movie is…meh, It doesn’t cause the same feeling, it sounds like an African instrumental, yes, but sounds too corny, without feelings (at least, not the same feeling putting in the original movie) and that’s why it seems unfair to me the comparisons between the original and the second movie, the soundtrack (songs and instrumental) in the original Lion king movie it’s great, full of feelings, and worthy of a show (like Broadway) while the second movie soundtrack doesn’t have the potential to deserve it , But I like a song from the second movie (“We are one”) and in the case of “He lives in you” well this is not a song from TLK2 at all, but the Broadway musical (I think that's what makes the lack of creativity and imagination, I can see that in this movie :/ ). In the case of the songs “Can you feel the love tonight?” and “love will find a way”…I’m sorry but neither of these two songs sounds similar, “Can you feel the love tonight? “ It’s just like listening an African nature sing or something beautiful like that (and with the scene and its colors, Beautiful) and, in the case of “love will find a way” well, I have to say…For a long time I forgot about the existence of that song (I just remember Upendi, but, who the hell who saw TLK2 does not remember that annoying song? It’s terrible, and the scene reminds to care bears, that’s the reason why I remember it), years later I read something about “love will find a way” and my reaction was like “Oh, I don’t remember that song” so I decided to watch the lyrics and then the video stared (just the lyrics) and I thought it was a someone else singing, maybe like a “modern version” not the movie version because doesn’t sounds like an African song , months later I saw TLK2 and I heard that song and it was the same “version” that I hear in the lyrics video, so in my opinion, I didn't found similarities between these two songs. I don’t know about that excuse of who sings each song, I mean, what’s wrong if Simba and Nala just sing a part of their song and Kovu and Kiara sings all their song?... “Can you feel the love tonight?” It’s a classic and an Oscar winner and there’s so many lists about “best love song” (generally, not only Disney songs) and we can found “Can you feel the love tonight?” in many of those lists (Considering Elton John’s version and the movie version, also considering the scene, that is like a “music video” of that song) besides, there’re many classics songs in Disney where the couple doesn’t sing the love songs and become some of the most memorable love songs in Disney movies, “Bella notte” song from The Lady and the Tramp was sung by Tony and Joe and then there’s a chorus (like in The lion king but Lady and tramp doesn’t sing)and it becomes an iconic love scene, “Kiss the girl” song from The little mermaid was sung by Sebastian and the song and the beautiful scene it’s a Disney classic love moment, “The beauty and the beast” song from The beauty and the beast was sung by Mrs. Potts and It’s another Disney classic love moment because of the song and the beautiful scene , “Can you feel the love tonight?” was sung by Timon and Pumbaa (the beginning and the end) by a chorus and by Simba and Nala (a pretty part of the song) and it becomes a classic love moment as well because of the scene and the song, so, I don’t think it matters who sings their song, more than that, is how classic and memorable it becomes and the feelings it transmit and in my personal opinion, “love will find a way” it’s like a generic “love song” as well as the title of the song (It sounds like the kind of poetry that a man tells a naive woman, just to get her into bed) and the scene… I think they tried to make the scene similar to “Can you feel the love tonight?” (I can see the lack of imagination in this sequel) but we can’t compare them, not with fairness (even because of the colors and scenography, in “Can you feel the love tonight?” Are magical and in “love will find a way”…Ughh, nothing is bright) sorry but we can't really compare the two movies with fairness, The Lion King (the original) becomes a masterpiece (and for many people this is the king of animated movies), while the Lion king 2, I don’t know, I found it too stereotypically (the movie, the story, the characters and the “love” between Kovu and Kiara, I found it like a stereotype teenager “love”, something like Twilight) and is just a Disney sequel (not a classic) and Disney sequels have a bad reputation, those sequels tend to have a naive, generic story and characters with less depth and development compared to its predecessor.
