I know that DE werent exactly mortal enemies at first, but Elena did detest Damon for what he did to all of those that he killed & his mistreatment of Caroline while he "appeared" not to care about her per se, since he did encourage Vicki in "Lost Girls" to stop by Jeremys place to feed on him &/or Elena. They didnt hate each other, but its sorta similar to parts of the Spuffy relationship. Not exactly, but different parts of it (I could name different instances, but just wanted to comment is all).

They are similar to them. I'm watching BtVS at the moment, and the similarities are shocking. For example Spike admitting his feelings for Buffy and her not believing he's capable of it and it taking her over a season to fall in love with him.

Because of the love triangle and SE and DE were friends at some point, I don't think Spuffy ever was. Plus Buffy is more of a heroine, Spike was her mortal enemy and Elena and Sookie are damsels in distress and they both see the human side in Eric and Damon.
