Chapter 25 – Confessions
Zuko paced across the living room floor that same night. He got caught staring romantically at Katara سے طرف کی Katara herself. What was he thinking?! She was with Aang. And what was with Zuko’s stupid blush as he turned away? He wondered what Katara thought.
Zuko’s pace turned into sprinting back and forth. He was way too anxious to know what Katara thought. The thought of her figuring out his true feelings was too much. What if she secretly felt the same way about him? That was also too much.
I’m going insane! Zuko thought.
He collapsed on the سوفی, لٹانا with a “humph”. He tried to think of nothing; picturing a blank spot in his mind. Then out of no where the blankness of his mind turned into Katara’s beautiful face.
That’s it!
Without thinking, Zuko got up and ran through the house, out the front door, and into the late night running to the house اگلے door. He was going to see Katara, and she was going to tell him what she thought.
When he got up to the door, his fears caught up with him. How was he going to explain to Katara about that look he gave her? He suddenly felt light-headed and unsure. He took a deep breath and tried to pull himself together. He raised his fist with slight hesitance, and at last found the courage to knock on the door.
It took about a منٹ for Katara to answer it. She looked surprised when she saw who it was. Zuko was surprised too, even though he knew Katara would answer. He was just surprised at how she looked. Her beautiful, long brown hair was in the same style as always, but it had a messy touch to it. She was wearing a short, spaghetti-stringed, lime-green nightgown. It looked smooth and shiny. White فیتا, فیتے bordered the end of her gown. The silky گاؤن, gown was cut short, stopping at about halfway down to her knees. Zuko bit his lip, at loss for words.
“Zuko!” she gasped. “It’s almost mid-night. What are آپ doing here?”
“I-I need to talk to you…alone,” Zuko replied. “Where’s Aang?”
“He’s taking a bath.”
“May I come in?”
“Of course.”
Katara moved out of the way and Zuko slipped into the warm house. Katara followed behind him after closing the door.
“I’m sorry that it’s such a bad time,” Zuko apologized.
“It’s okay, really. It’s just that I don’t look my best right now,” Katara told him.
“Don’t be modest! آپ look…” Zuko stammered for the right word, “amazing.”
She gave him a weak smile. “Thank you. So, what is it that آپ want to talk to me about?”
Zuko took another deep breath. “I’m just wondering…what آپ though when آپ caught me…looking at آپ at dinner.”
Katara looked stunned. “Well…at first I thought آپ were looking at someone else but then…I realized آپ weren’t. I don’t understand.”
“Why do آپ think I was looking at you?”
Katara took a step back and answered, “I honestly don’t know. And, I’m not sure if I want to know.”
She looked away from him, her cheeks flushed. Zuko felt like he should be relieved, but he wasn’t.
“Okay, then. I guess I should leave,” Zuko muttered as he went for the door. He was only a foot and a half away from the doorknob when Katara yelled, “Wait! Stop.”
Zuko turned around to look at her.
“I don’t want آپ to leave,” Katara half-whispered. “I never do.”
They were silent for a moment. At last Zuko said, “Do آپ want me to tell you?”
Katara nodded in such a light way that her head barely moved.
Zuko took a deep breath and took a step closer to her. “I was thinking about that girl who I kissed once. The girl who I understood so well and almost died for. But she is also the girl with the broken smile; the one who isn’t sure that she wants the things she has. She’s so confused and unsure; wondering if what she feels is a lie. And that pain that she goes through is reflected on me, killing me. Torturing me. I’m not sure if I can take it any more. And she, somehow, is blind to the fact that when she’s in pain, I’m in pain. And that I’ll do whatever it takes to make her happy again.”
Zuko was now inches from Katara’s face. He took her face in his hands and brought her up to his face. Then he kissed her on the lips romantically. It was the best kiss he ever had, and it was the best feeling he ever felt in his life.
When he let her go, Katara put her hand gently on her lips and stumbled back. She fell back onto the couch, her body shaking.
“You—you—” was all she could choke out.
“I’m in love with you, Katara,” Zuko confessed. “And I think we’re meant to be together.”
