Winter's Winsome Weather

Crisp Winter, final season of the year,
Comes suddenly when awesome Autumn's past
The frost makes Winter mornings bright and clear,
But fosters Winter's biting icey blasts.
But Winter's winsomeness is also there,
The snow which hides the scars of furrowed ground,
The frost that sparkles on the hedgerows bare,
The snow that muffles harsh intrusive sound.
Ah! Winter, time of joy and peace and cheer,
Of carols chant and chimes of Christmas Bells,
The promise of 'The love that casts out fear',
The pleasure of sweet spicey Yuletide smells.
Remind us after Winter comes the Spring
When all things bright and beautiful will sing!

(John Knight - September 2009) .

"Sarah!" Mother called. "Please get away from the window. Close the curtains and come on out here in the باورچی خانے, باورچی خانہ with me."

Sarah had her small, chubby nose up to the window in the living-room. She had her eyes peeled to the window for the past hour. It was snowing wildly and it was very windy. She was waiting for her dad to come ہوم from work. He was already an گھنٹہ late.

"Come on, Sarah," coaxed her mother. "Daddy will be ہوم soon."

"But, where is he?" five سال old Sarah pouted. "He should have been here سے طرف کی now."

Sarah joined her mother in the kitchen. She pulled out a brown leather chair and sat down at the huge oak table.

"Sarah," کہا Mother. "Daddy is probably held up because of the weather. He'll be ہوم soon."

Mrs. Thompson frowned as she set a big bowl of homemade chicken سوپ in front of her daughter. She knew Sarah had a right to be worried about her father because she too, was worried. He only worked about fifteen منٹ away from home, in their little village. He worked in a lumber yard.

Auroras, also known as northern and southern (polar) lights یا aurorae (singular: aurora), are natural light displays in the sky, particularly in the polar regions, and usually observed at night. They typically occur in the ionosphere. They are also referred to as polar auroras. This is a misnomer however, because they are commonly visible between 65 to 72 degrees north and south latitudes, which place them a ring just within the Arctic and Antarctic circles. Aurorae do occur deeper inside the polar regions, but these are infrequent and often invisible to the naked eye.

In northern latitudes, the effect is known as the aurora borealis, named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for the north wind, Boreas, سے طرف کی Pierre Gassendi in 1621.[1] The aurora borealis is also called the northern polar lights, as it is only visible in the sky from the Northern Hemisphere, with the chance of visibility increasing with proximity to the North Magnetic Pole. (The North Magnetic Pole is currently in the arctic islands of northern Canada.) Auroras seen near the magnetic pole may be high overhead, but from farther away, they illuminate the northern horizon as a...

Just another دن in paradise . . .

It’s almost four degrees below zero and I step outside.
Snowflakes twinkle lazily in the air as they head for the ground.
Everything is covered in a blanket of snow.
The world is undisturbed as not even a bird chirps.
I take a step into the crunchy snow.
Freezing air wraps around me and I shiver.
I venture another step آگے and I’m swept into a beautiful world.
There’s white as far as the eye can see.
I take a breath of fresh, crisp air and lean down to take some snow.
The snow is perfect: Ominous white made of thousands of compact snowflakes.
I lick the snow, my tongue brushing along each bump.
I feel a drop on my head.
