iPhone 7 Plus dual camera system: fake depth of field and bokeh

Authored by cliff

The headline feature for Apple's new iPhone 7 Plus is a new dual camera system that allows the camera to detect depth more accurately. As a result the camera can now generate photographs that have a shallow depth of field control similar to that of a digital SLR. Unfortunately to think that this now replaces a digital SLR is completely missing the point of large sensor cameras the main advantage of a large sensor camera is increased dynamic range and better quality in low-light.

One thing is for certain, however: there will be a total glut of first-year photography student like shallow depth of field crappy photographs flooding the internet with iPhone 7 enable fake depth of field control and fake bokeh.
