Guatemala
Brennan was on the phone with the state department when Booth entered her office. As he parked himself on her سوفی, لٹانا she was finishing her conversation. “I understand the importance of this trip for the senators and congressman but I do have other important projects that I need to take care of. Yes I realize that it would be helpful to explain what is going on about the genocide and the mercenaries who are terrorizing the countryside. I will get back to آپ because I need to check my calendar regarding these dates.”
“Bones what was that about?”
“The state department wants me to accompany some senators and representatives and their families as they do a fact finding trip to Guatemala about the حالیہ problems with mercenaries.”
“Why do they want آپ to go?”
“I believe it is because I have had to identify some of the حالیہ victims.”
“You know Bones it may be because آپ are a famous مصنف and they want their names in the paper. I don’t like the idea of آپ going down there it could be dangerous.”
“Booth I am capable of taking care of myself, besides there may be a chance that this could help in getting some action about these mercenaries.”
Booth looked at her with concern in his eyes but he کہا nothing مزید about it because he knows if he insisted she not go, she would make a point of going. He would have to wait and see if there may be a chance where he can change her mind about going. Meanwhile they have a case they needed to work on.
The اگلے week was very busy with doing the tests on the few body parts that they recovered to discover the identity of the victim. Once they got the identity it was a matter of a little research to discover the killer and another case was quickly solved. They were celebrating the solving of the case when Brennan mentioned. “I’ve decided to go with the congressmen to Guatemala. I should only be gone for a few days.”
“Bones are آپ sure that آپ need to go?”
“Yes. I can help them see what these men do.”
“Bones I don’t want آپ to go.”
“Why?”
Booth looked at her and was thinking. I want to tell آپ how dangerous it is and that if anything should happen to آپ I would lose the person I love the most in this world. But all he could say out loud was. “What if I need you?”
“Booth I will only be gone for four days.”
“Well that’s four days to many.”
Brennan just looked at him for a moment and finally said. “I will miss آپ too.”
When Brennan left for Guatemala Booth made some calls to an old army buddy who was still working down there to check on the situation. His friend told him that it appears that a General Batista is behind the guerillas and he is the one to watch. He also told Booth that he would keep an eye on Bones for him and let him know if there are any problems.
The congressional party arrived in the capital of Guatemala and settled into their hotel rooms. Brennan made a call to Booth and left him a message letting him know where she was and when she would be coming home. Later that evening the party was introduced to General Batista who would be escorting them on their trip to the site of the guerilla activity the اگلے morning.
As the party was loaded into the truck, Brennan noticed that there were a number of soldiers going with them. She thought that at least she would be protected and Booth was silly to worry about her. But she did like the idea he was worried it made her feel good that he cared.
After they got to the location and were looking over the site, Brennan was دکھانا the members how the guerillas would kill their victims and mutilate the bodies. As the group was walking around, Brennan noticed that all of the soldiers who were supposed to be there had disappeared and they were now surrounded سے طرف کی armed men who were not wearing any kind of uniform. As they were gathered in the middle of the town under gun point, the apparent leader سے طرف کی the name of Carlos Ramirez کہا that they were all his prisoners and if they tried to escape he would shot them. Brennan was quiet and was just listening she did not want them to know she could understand what they were saying in Spanish. She learned that they planned on holding the group for ransom and until they got their money no harm would come to them
Meanwhile back in DC the State Dept. received a message that کہا that the congressional party had been captured سے طرف کی the guerillas and for their محفوظ release they wanted $20 million dollars.
Word quickly reached the Jeffersonian about Dr. Brennan and the other members of the party. Booth also learned of the capture and he headed for the State Departments office. He was met سے طرف کی a baby faced staff member who he had talked with before on another case. The staff member کہا that they would be handling the situation and he should not interfere.
Booth had a look of quiet murderous rage on his face and poked the staffer in the chest as he said. “If any harm comes to my partner I will be coming to interfere with you.” He then returned to his office and called his friend in Guatemala about what has happened.
His friend کہا that the kidnapping was set up سے طرف کی General Batista in order for him to get funds for his revolution. He also told Booth that if he would come down, he would help with supplies and some man power to help rescue the group.
With that Booth said. “I’ll be on the اگلے flight.”
Booth checked with his old army buddy as soon as he landed. His buddy said. “The men who took the hostages are part of General Batista’s private army and they have a strong hold in the hills about eighty miles from here. I have some men who will help آپ and any kind of weapon آپ need. آپ do understand that this group has kidnapped before and after the ransom was paid they killed the hostages.”
“Just get me close to their strong hold and let me take care of them.” Booth responded.
Back at the camp Bones had counted that there were over twenty-five men in the camp with others guarding the perimeter so she knew that there would be little chance to escape. She could only hope that General Batista would come to their aide. The اگلے few days were stressful for the group waiting to see what was going to happen. On the fifth دن of their captivity, Bones noticed that there was a change in the camp. It seemed that there were fewer men in the camp and she overheard some say that the night guards did not return from patrol and no one has seen them. For the اگلے two days she noticed that as the men went on patrol fewer came back and now there was only about fifteen men in the camp. She also noticed that the leader had made a call to someone about getting مزید men. They were also starting to go out in pairs but only one would come back if any. Finally on the twelfth دن there were only eight men left and no one was talking. They were all on edge it seems and looking over their shoulders.
In the same timeframe, Booth had reached the outer perimeter of the guarded camp and had set up his plan of action. As the patrols came out he and the other men would ambush them and silence them for good. He quietly silenced them as he had been taught in the Rangers. The men who were sent to help him quickly got rid of the bodies so no one would find them. He has seen the camp and noticed the hostages and that Bones was there He planned on how best to rescue them but he needed to reduce the number even مزید so he set up his sniper رائفل and started to eliminate the rest.
One of the senators noticed it first. He was just being handed a cup of water when the guard fell over dead from a bullet hole in his head. Everyone quickly grabbed their weapons and looked around trying to determine where the shot had come from but the sounds of the jungle were the only noise they heard. After a few hours they relaxed and sat around the آگ کے, آگ with their weapons handy when another man slumped over dead with another bullet hole in his heart. There was no sleep for anyone in the camp that night. The اگلے morning one could hear Carlos Ramirez making a call about what has happened and that he needed مزید men as there were now only six men let, when the shots rang out and two مزید men were dead. The remaining men looked at each other and took one of the hostages as a shield to protect them. Carlos had picked out Bones and was standing behind her when Booth emerged from the jungle. He was in camouflage and he was in military garb along with the other men who were with him. The other men had their weapons pointed at each of the guerillas, while Booth faced Carlos.
Carlos threatened. “Put your weapons down یا we will kill the hostages.”
One of the Senators said. “Do as he says.”
Another hostage being held said. “Please I don’t want to die.”
Bones was just looking at the man who had emerged from the jungle and she suddenly realized that it was Booth. He has come to save her and now she knew she was safe.
Booth responded. “I’ll put my weapon down and آپ let her go.” As he کہا this he was putting his رائفل slowly to the ground. Carlos had no intention of letting Bones go but he did اقدام a little to get aim on Booth with his gun but before he could آگ کے, آگ a چھری came and struck him squarely in his throat. What he didn’t see was Booth using his other hand to reach for his چھری because he knew the منٹ he dropped his weapon, Carlos would have shot him and probably Bones.
Booth reached Bones with one giant leap before the dead Carlos pulled her to the ground. He wrapped his arms around her and she buried her face into his chest for support. Neither of them spoke, just the knowledge that they were in each others arms spoke volumes.
As Bones started to say something, Booth quietly whispered in her ear. “Bones, I’m not here. No one can know that I came. We’ll talk when we are both back in DC.”
Bones looked into Booth’s eyes and کہا nothing, but he could see she understood.
As for the other guerillas they had dropped their weapons and surrendered.
The men, who helped Booth, took the group back to the capital and the US Embassy for safety. Booth headed for the airport to fly back ہوم before Bones. At the Embassy there was a lot of concern as to what had happened and each person related the story of the man that came out of nowhere and saved them all but none of them knew his name only that he sounded like an American. Only Bones knew the truth and she was not saying anything. The very اگلے دن the entire group was flown ہوم with an American military escort for safety.
At the airport there was a passel of reporters but Brennan knew that she would not have to say anything because all of the politicians would be trying to get the spotlight. She was looking for Booth and at first did not see him, but out of the corner of her eye she spotted him waiting for her down the concourse. It took great effort on her part not to run into his arms which would have attracted the attention of the news media. She slowly walked over to him with tears in her eyes.
“Booth, what آپ did……..”
“Bones, let’s not talk about it right now. I promised I would always be there for you.”
“Booth, please take me home.”
As they entered Brennan’s apartment, she turned to Booth. “Please stay with me here. I just want to feel محفوظ and secure.”
“I’ll stay as long as آپ want Bones.”
Brennan then went to the bedroom and changed her clothes while Booth got a couple of beers out of the refrigerator and sat on the couch.
As she came back into the room she could see Booth relaxing on the سوفی, لٹانا and the بیئر waiting for her. She sat down on the couch, drank a sip of beer, and then curled herself up in his arms. She looked into his face and whispered. “Booth, those men would have killed all of us, had آپ not saved us. I know what it cost آپ and I don’t know what to say.”
“Then say nothing مزید about it. But اگلے time when I ask آپ not to go آپ promise to stay home.”
“Yes Booth I promise.” Saying this she cozies up closer. “Booth I just want to let آپ know that while I was being held prisoner, I had time to think about my life and what it has been like since I meet you. I have come to the realization that I cannot do everything سے طرف کی myself and that I now know what the meaning is to love someone.”
“What are آپ trying to say, Bones?”
Brennan sat up and looked Booth in the face. “I’m saying this all wrong.”
“Just say it Bones.”
“I didn’t realize it until I thought I would never see آپ again. Booth, I’m in love with you.”
“Good.”
Brennan looked at Booth with a puzzled look perplexed at what he کہا until he finished with. “Because I am in love with آپ Bones.” Booth then leaned over and gently kissed her lips before she could say anything further. As he pulled her closer to him, she surrendered to his embraces.
The اگلے morning as the sunlight entered the bedroom she was enjoying the comfort of the بستر and the sound of Booth’s gentle snoring. As she watched him sleep, she finally knew what he meant when he کہا that it was not just sex but making love and to be one with someone.
Brennan was on the phone with the state department when Booth entered her office.
