I feel like instead of just forcing her into it, Damon did give Bonnie a bit of a say and he let her make up her mind. Bonnie was willing to do whatever it took to protect Elena and D/B were on the same page because of it. I just felt like Damon is his true and best self when he is with Bonnie.
