I think having Elena go from “always Stefan” to “I don’t know about always” because of her feelings for Damon is supposed to be a very very slow progression of her feelings from Stefan to Damon.

feeling she can no longer deny. I think they will grow on their own, change and evolve, but this time Elena will have to do most of the walking, chasing, running. Right into the arms of what she was trying to escape.
