Halsey describes "Strangers," her duet with Lauren Jauregui, as a same sex love song.
to come out, and with it the same love anthem featuring Lauren Jauregui, a small snippet of “Strangers” surfaced online earlier today. Prior to the leak, the “Colors” singer had revealed that it would be a love song for the LGBTQIA+ community and emphasized the importance of not putting a straight girl on the track. Enter the Fifth Harmony member, who last year came out as bisexual.
Being bi herself, Halsey also stressed the importance of having two queer women with “mainstream pop presence” singing a love song using same sex pronouns, contrary to songs on 2015’s
, since it’s rare. And, honestly, damn necessary. While Halsey only talked about the cool combination of both singers’ raspy voices, its theme and inspirations, and the fact that Adele’s “Hello” producer Greg Kurstin made it, not much else was known about “Strangers” — until now.
In the painfully short 31 seconds, we get this on-the-road ‘80s biker vibe and the two divas stating, “We’re not lovers, we’re just strangers with the same damn hunger to be touched, to be loved, to feel anything at all.” After releasing “Now Or Never,” her most commercially-friendly single to date, “Strangers” serves as another piece in the album’s storyline where the two lovers meet. With less than a month to go before
