My mom just got an IPhone X a few days ago. A little smaller than expected, but other than that she loves it. Great camera, she loves the swiping and lack of button pressing, she's waaaaay too addicted to the animoji...
The only real criticism I can say...having to press the Siri button and the volume button to shut down the phone seems a tad overcomplicated. Doesn't make sense to me why I can't just hold down the Siri button to shut down.
A lot of it has to do with the many new (unnecessary) features it has, including the Animoji. Plus, lots of people generally just hate سیب, ایپل period.
Me, personally? I'm just not interested in paying loads of $$$$ just for a new iPhone, when my iPhone 7+ works just fine.
