The Buffyverse Soul Having/Anchoring

Ok, this has been bothering me for sometime so here it is. If Spike is able to fight to earn his soul in the trials then what about Angel. Wouldn't he be able to earn his soul so the curse was still there but if he lost it, it would still be there? Sort of double insurance for soul having.

If there is a way for Cordy to make sure her powers don't leave during comshock (spelling?) and Spike to recieve his soul sans loophole shouldn't there be a way for Angel to anchor it. People move his soul in and out of him fairly often but never lock it down.

I understand that due to being on different networks and to make the show work Angel and Buffy had to be kept apart but now in comic land is this a possibility? Was it mentioned somewhere and I missed it? In I will remember you Angel couldn't stay human because it put Buffy in danger and removed him from the whole good, evil chessboard but having a soul without clauses would be a major victory.

Anybody have any thoughts?

Of course there is, but Angel wasted eighty years in an alley and didn't even bother to learn what exactly the gypsy's cursed him with.

I would think after the whole "Suprise" of "Innocence" and everything there after he would try something. And then you have Spike going and getting his soul and I think if Spike knew about it Angel would have to. Makes me wonder why he didn't attempt it in season 3 when he was falling for Cordy or after finding out about ensoulded Spike if he didn't. I think the first 80 years was his time in the basement if you know what I mean. Quiet insane reflection time.

I think it's just cause Angel likes people to pity him in his guilt, and that he thinks it's his penance or something like that. And frankly I think he deserves the guilt. So does Spike, they both deserve that guilt, but Spike, unlike Angel doesn't brood over it and accepts he can't change the past.

On point, as always. :)

Angel is a glutton for punishment.

I think the problem is that, as Angelus, he wasn't man enough to want his soul. Ouch!

Or is it that Spike doesn't really care? Or is it that they haven't got time to film eighty years of Spike wandering around a tortured soul? Or is it because they 'souled' out (sorry) and decided to go against everything previously stated and make Spike an anamoly so they could try and give Buffy some non-boring love interest, after getting burned with Riley, and also get a very-popular character onto the full-time cast therefore killing two birds with one stone and attempting to save an ailing show?
