I remember visiting this website once...
It was called ‘Code Black’ Renewed for Season 3 at CBS — 13 Episodes | TVLine
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
won’t be closing its hospital doors anytime soon.
CBS has renewed the medical drama for Season 3, TVLine has learned.
RELATED2017 Renewal Scorecard: What’s Coming Back? What’s Getting Cancelled? What’s on the Bubble?
An episode count (the first two seasons averaged 17 episodes) was not immediately made available.
The renewal comes after the Marcia Gay Harden drama underwent a massive revamp in Season 2, adding Rob Lowe as maverick doc Ethan Willis, a seasoned combat surgeon coming off a stint in war-ravaged Afghanistan.
Lowe’s debut last September reached 6.4 million total viewers and a 1.2 demo rating, but those ratings didn’t hold. February’s Season 2 finale drew a 0.9 in the demo, down 25 percent from the season opener, putting the show heavily on the bubble.
As a whole, Season 2 averaged a 1.0 rating, besting the already renewed
‘s renewal? Surprised to learn the medical drama still has a pulse? Sound off below.

I’m so thrilled as it’s a wonderful show!!!! Thank you so very much!!!!!!
Renewal of Code Black makes me happy. It’s unlike other medical shows. Renewing this & Elementary makes my Mother’s Day weekend!
Me too, I have been holding my breath waiting, so, so glad it is renewed. One of my very favorite shows.
Yay….I didn’t think I would like season 2 when they got rid of Bonnie and Zaf but they did a freat job revamping the show. I’ll be back next season
With the strength of positive responses to this show’s renewal, it pretty much shoots down the credibility of Neilson ratings, doesn’t it? Why can’t cable, satellite and streaming services be used systematically to determine the real numbers of people watching these shows. Too often shows are cancelled that result in a public uproar, so there has to be something not working with the current system of ratings.
The ratings haven’t worked for a very long time. Let’s face it — to the system, once you’re over 48, you no longer count in the scheme of things, and male opinion is weighted higher than female.
This is the last one I was waiting for. I am surprised but pleased.
I really didn’t expect this but that’s great!
SO EXCITED!!! Thrilled! I love Code Black and so wanted it to come back.
This is the show I was worried about the most. So glad to hear it’s renewed. Hope they don’t revamp the cast again, unless they get rid of Boris. He can go, but I hope the rest of the cast stays.
You don’t like Boris Kodjoe?? He is PERFECT as head of surgery! Surgeons are superb technicians but have ZERO personality. Their ability to focus is paramount. And chest and trauma surgeons have the biggest egos! You HAVE to be eminently confident to cut into someone’s chest, use rib spreaders that break ribs to get at the heart. And they are STRONG. Takes strength to pull a fractured scapula (shoulder blade) back into place. You can’t be emotional…which is what bugs me about Marcia Gay Harden. Her emotions are all over the place.
You mention some qualities, that when in the right proportions, can be an asset to many surgeons. Out of control, or out of proportion, they are are more dangerous then worthwhile. They had drawn his original character in the dysfuctional zone, but they were working very hard to fix that last season.
So glad to hear Code Black has been renewed for a third season. One of my favorites. Can’t wait for it to return.
Thank you, CBS. It’s a great show. For those of us sick of reality TV, it’s refreshing to have a program with depth to it. Many thanks!
That’s Miracle 2/3 I was hoping for! Is CBS going to pull a 3/3 with CMBB? Either, that was the one I was willing to sacrifice for the others! My mom will be happy with this Mother’s Day present!
I hope and pray MCBB will be back! Love Gary Sinise and cast, but he really brings it to life. I need more Gary! PLEASE
Oh, I hope it will be back too!! And Gary Sinise is a major favorite because CSI:NY. However, given show overall, and chances of long term survival, I’ve been willing to sacrifice CMBB in lieu of Elementary and Code Black. If it does get canceled, the idea scenario would be for Jack Garrett to decide to remain stationary and switch places in the BAU with useless Walker 😜
Super pumped; this and Rosewood were the shows I was worried about. At least I’ll still have Code Black! So excited!
Thank you. Thank you for renewing Code Black. Great show.
How many medical shows are there now? seriously?!
three current medical shows, so…. You may not be making the point you set out to make. It’s probably a wash.
There are other medical shows? I guess there are–just don’t have cable so pretty selective. Code Black is very authentic–I’ve gone back and watched them two, three times and have used them when I teach paramedic or trauma training to military. THINK outside the box!
I’ve yet to meet an “Ethan!” Unfortunately the REAL military would have bounced him before he made Major much less up to the rank of Colonel. Too many uptight military administrators. More concerned about rules than lives at times.
There is also Grey’s Anatomy, Saving Hope, Night Shift, General Hospital, and Chicago Med on network TV.
Thank you!!! This just made my day!!!
Yay!! Love this show. The revamp was better. I am so glad it’s back.
Well 2 of 3 of my shows are coming back, Code Black was the last one I was waiting to hear. I lost Rosewood, but kept Elementary and Code Black. So happy they decided to renew Code Black for season 3, can’t wait for the new seasons to begain.
Finally the one show I regularly watch is renewed!!!!!!! Thanks!!!!!
Thank you, Thank You, CBS!!!!!!!! Now I can breathe a sigh of relief and smile.😊😊😊😊😊
I am very happy that it was renewed. Great show, good storylines and excellent cast.
Hell yeah!!!! Can’t wait whoot whoot. Season 3
WOOHOO!! Best medical based tv show ever!! Love it!!
Yes as a nurse I agree it’s the most realistic medical show ever. Love it!!!!!!
As a trauma doc (since Vietnam) and you as a nurse..do you REALLY believe that someone as uhh “chubby” and timid as Angus could REALLY be a trauma doc? Seems the top ones–like Ethan and Williams run on adrenaline. Not an ounce of fat on them and NEVER hesitant. I’m interested in YOUR expert observational skills.
Also too few nurses in this show…they make it like the doctors do everything. Uhh hello! The RNs are the ones running the show in ERs and ICUs. Better at recognizing heart arrhythmias and IV drugs than ANY doc. Getting the ultrasounds,ECMOs, pacemakers to the bedside! Showing the newbie residents how to do things.
You RNs RULE! But “mama” is way over the top. He does more “counseling” than honest to goodness nursing!
Thank you for your wonderful work! I could do NOTHING without competent RNs getting it done! Nurses have the HIGHEST approval rate of any occupation in the USA with the most trust!
I meant the medical stories. Yes it’s not reality but the medical stories are intense. Is it real? No. We all know it’s not. Why be so serious? In the world of television people are not looking for things to be taken like real life. We are escaping from reality and want happy endings knowing sadness is always right around the corner.
I was in an ER just yesterday and saw several overweight nurses and doctors. I’m not sure what a person’s waist size has to do with medical competence. The ones I saw seemed to do their jobs just fine.
Just found out code black has been renewed I am ecstaticly happy I have been hoping and praying that it comes back and now it is thank you thank you thank you thank you
I am so happy right now!!!!!!!! Thank you – you just made my day!
Love Code Black! As a retired RN I am mesmerized by each week’s storyline. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Yeah–ONLY show where they actually have the bed rails UP! I’m always yelling at other shows–Bosch, Criminal Minds-PUT THE BED RAILS UP!
So glad this one came back. Like that it focuses more on the medical stuff and not the soapy drama stuff from their personal lives.
YES !!!! We r so happy and excited that Code Black was brought back to life !!!! We love that series!!!
Great Birthday 🎁 for me today Love this show!
Florence agree 100%. They get the really important stuff right! And I love how each person whether doc or nurse can offer a new way of doing things. Only YUGE mistake is the residents diagnosing the heart irregularities. This is where ER nurses shine as they are ALWAYS at the bedside and can tell the difference between regular v-tach and Torsades which is remedied with IV magnesium. V-tach with electro conversion. When Angus diagnosed Torsades I thought “No way!” Er and ICU nurses are the experts at irregular heart rhythms and IV meds.
Thank the high heavens! This is my all time favorite show – and I hope it never gets cancelled. IF people would give it a chance and realize it’s not like any other typical medical show I think the ratings would be off the charts. Thank you CBS! <3
Yay, yay, yay! I just read this and screamed? Yay!
With Code Black and Elementary back, I’ve only lost Rosewood.
Yes, Yes, Yes! For both the return of Elementary and Code Black.
Not your typical medical drama, Code Black but the medical writing is spot-on…except too many doctors to nurse ratio. When the docs call for 6 units of O neg blood NOW, just where do you think the units of blood appear from? Nurses have to go to the blood bank, check out the blood, draw blood for lab work then start the IVs. Maybe it’s not as “sexy” as Ethan ordering an ECMO to be used on a maintenance guy trapped under a boiler, but it’s NURSES who set up and run the Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) which is a pump that circulates blood through an artificial lung back into the bloodstream of the patient. This system provides heart-lung bypass support outside of the body.
At times it gets too soap opera for me. I have worked in trauma medicine since the Vietnam War and have never known docs to have sex with each other! Ever!
And it’s REALLY nice watching Rob Lowe-sigh! Yeah, yeah I know he is pretty bizarre in the real world, but who cares!
I find it strange that “Code Black” switches to mixed-case closed captioning this season, yet the original “Criminal Minds” still has its closed captioning in all-caps after all these years.
And I think the “Code Black” pickup means a cancellation for “Criminal Minds”‘s “Beyond Borders” spinoff because there’s just really no more room on next season’s CBS schedule because of the four new dramas that were ordered to series last Friday. CBS always likes to pack their schedule with so many returning series from theprevious season…
So very happy that Code Back is going to return, so much better than it’s replacement Doubt.
Thanks for staying with quality dramatic television
Thank You Thank You for renewing this show I loved it and was so disappointed when I heard it wasn;t going to be renewed.
I am so excited to see Code Black again. I have been worried about it coming back. My son and I actually sit down and watch this together
I love love this show! I’m so glad it’s comming back!!! When will it be back? Was sad when I thought they cancelled it❤️
