After pitting lawyer-by-day / vigilante-by-night Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) against ruthless crime boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D\'Onofrio) in
\'s first season, and against rampaging revenger Frank Castle / The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) in season two, the Marvel / Netflix series now has its sights set on a new target.
Long-awaited by fans, the upcoming third season will finally see the debut of Bullseye – a villain who, along with Fisk, is one of the most popular and prolific villains in the Daredevil comic book canon.
series but don\'t know the source material, here\'s everything you need to know.
Bullseye is a costumed super-villain, with an uncanny sense of aim, able to propel any object with an accuracy and force so as to be lethal.
The character – created by writer Gary Friedrich and artist Herb Trimpe – first appeared as "Bulls-Eye" in a 1969 issue of
. Despite apparently dying at the close of his debut adventure, the rechristened Bullseye was resurrected with no explanation in
Bullseye has gone on to become one of the Man Without Fear\'s most formidable foes, killing both Daredevil\'s former lover Elektra (in 1982\'s

Bullseye\'s real name is up for debate. He has used the moniker "Benjamin Poindexter" on several occasions, and this is, in fact, established as his birth name in the
comic series (set outside of mainstream Marvel continuity). But he\'s also adopted the aliases "Lester" and "Leonard" on various occasions.
One origin story depicts him as the product of a broken home who murdered his abusive father and staged it as a suicide. Another has him as an extraordinarily talented baseball pitcher who was barred from the game, and convicted of manslaughter, after throwing the ball at the head of the opposing team\'s batter and killing him.
Bullseye may, or may not, have also worked as an assassin for the National Security Agency. (As a comic book character who\'s existed in various forms for over 40 years, it\'s perhaps no surprise that Bullseye\'s origins have been subject to much rewriting and retconning over the decades.)
Daredevil season 3: Who\'s the actor playing Bullseye?
actor Wilson Bethel was cast as a series regular in
\'s third season, with his character described only as "an FBI agent who will play a critical role in the conflict between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk".
Shortly afterward, a leaked shot of the season\'s official crew jacket featured Bullseye\'s familiar logo displayed prominently, seemingly confirming the character\'s involvement in the new episodes.
The leaks kept on coming, with personal trainer Naqam Washington later posting a shot on Instagram of Charlie Cox and Bethel post-workout, with the caption: "Season 3 of
With the game pretty much up, Marvel and Netflix confirmed that Bethel was playing Bullseye in a teaser trailer released in October 2018.
This version of the character, named Benjamin \'Dex\' Poindexter, is an FBI agent and master marksman with a troubled past who falls into the Kingpin\'s orbit. Seen donning a hat with the Bullseye logo on it, Bethel\'s character says: "I work for the Federal Government. FBI helped keep me on the straight and narrow. But now I\'m drowning in deep water."
Little else can be revealed about Bethel\'s version of Bullseye at this stage – spoilers! – though you can expect a more nuanced take on the character than seen in previous screen versions.
Wasn\'t Bullseye in that terrible Daredevil movie?
Here\'s hoping that Bethal\'s version of the character erases all lingering memories of Colin Farrell\'s...
Farrell\'s Bullseye is a Guinness-chugging Irish thug – he has a target symbol apparently burned into his forehead, chokes old ladies on planes with strategically-placed peanuts and communicates as much through grunts as through actual dialogue. ("Bullseye! Heh? Heh!")
Still, at least Farrell looked like he was having fun. Which is more than can be said for anyone else in the film. Or anyone who\'s ever seen it.
