She's nowhere near being a mary-sue.

she is not perfect at all...she is anti-social, self-involved, and extremly nosey so I don't think she could be considered a Mary-Sue.

link Even the Nostalgia Critic who loves her thinks she's a Mary-Sue. She has no flaws at all! She's kind, doesn't care what people think about her, beautiful, smart, caring. She's basically the perfect vision of a Mary-Sue.

I somewhat do, somewhat don't. I do see noteworthy flaws from her. But, I don't think being a near-perfect character is always a bad thing, I still enjoy her despite it, and she still feels like a real person- not a Barbie.

Good for him, but I still think she is NOT perfect and I am sticking by it. No one is perfect so i do not think her imperfections are a bad thing. As I stated before her FLAWS are : 1. she is ANTI-SOCIAL (avoiding the company of other people; unsociable) 2. She is NOSEY ( offensively curious or inquisitive) and 3. She is SELF-INVOLVED (Absorbed primarily or only in one's own interests or activities.)4. STUBBORN (Having or showing dogged determination not to change one's attitude or position on something, esp. in spite of good arguments or reasons).......yes she is also kind,polite, caring, ect. but she also has her own hangups...But whatever everyone has their own opinion.....And of course someone who LOVES her is going to think she is perfect...I am not trying to change any ones mind just stating what I think

Nah. The whole town gushing over her at once made me question it a bit, but she has her moments that are acknowledged to be pure bitchy stupidity (going into the West Wing despite implications that she will endanger herself and everyone around her, anyone?). She's definitely teetering on the edge to being one, though.

While I do think she has a lot of moments where she seems perfect I think Sweatpea2007 has it about right. Belle can be very stubborn, introverted, and nosey.

she defines one. fans and the creators ignore her "flaws". they make her out to be too perfect because sh eis amde to be overly sympathetic and is an insert character.

The Nostalgia Critic is great when it comes to movies, but he obviously doesn't read much and has no idea what a Mary Sue actually is. There isn't one Mary Sue in the whole Disney Canon - but there are two examples for MALE Mary Sues. There is for one Taran from "The Black Cauldron" and two Milo from "Atlantis" - and that's exactly the reason why those movies failed. Nobody likes a whiny main character who gets everything handled to him and to whom the universe seem to bend for at his will.
A Mary Sue is a character with no flaws at all, one we would want to be in out dreams, but who never really likes. Belle is actually the opposite, the character we all were at one point in our life, the outsider, the nerd, which makes her the ultimatively relatable character.

^^thats WHy she is one, she is so generic anyone can relate to her, that was the whole point. feeling like an outsider is like, a universal thing. it doesnt make her remotely unique. and nerdiness is romanticized now so, that makes her even more perfect (not that she really is a nerd but whatever). no one as popular she SHE is could possibly be a real outsider, lol
