Nikolaj Coster-Waldau: “The Opening Scene of Season Six Will Reveal…”

I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Nikolaj Coster-Waldau: The Opening Scene of Season Six...
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
came out for the SAG Awards this weekend in Los Angeles. To many people’s surprise, Kit Harington was among the attendees, despite being AWOL for many other awards events this year. Harington avoided reporters on the red carpet, so unfortunately we don’t have video of him being forced to insist that his character is dead and that he had little to nothing to do with the show this coming season. But other actors and actresses from the series were not so lucky. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, for example, found himself buttonholed by Giuliana Rancic, who demanded to know what was in store for Season 6. In response, Coster-Waldau opened up about what we can expect to see in the opening scene of the forthcoming season.
“The opening of the show, of Season six, will reveal that Jon Snow…. is dead. But that’s not a big surprise, really.”
This may be my favorite quote in “how to avoid talking about the thing everyone wants you to talk about game” so far. Except maybe Gwen Christie’s “spoiler” that
Meanwhile, in the slightly more forthcoming category, Emilia Clarke once again gushed about how much this season was going to blow everyone’s minds, and how hard the actors had to work to pull it off.
I love how Clarke admits she’s one of the best marks for reporters in getting information. She also suggests the best mark outside of herself is Alfie Allen. I’m sure he appreciates that.
, Liam Cunningham is hilarious talking about going to the SAGs, and gives a bit away about his reaction to the Season 6 scripts.
The “this is going to be a tough season to watch” bit is the first time we’ve heard that—most of what the cast has said runs the gamut from “epic” to “amazing.” Cunningham is right though—in their own way, every season is tough to watch. Why should this one be any different?
In another interview snippet, Liam Cunningham and John Bradley talk about surpassing the books, while Tom Wlaschiha, who plays Jaqen H’ghar, talks about the filming locations he was in this season.
And finally Sophie Turner reiterates what she said at the EW pre-SAG party: that this is the season Sansa finally gets the respect she deserves.
Let’s hope that for once she really does.

I’m doubting that again… Not sure what to think anymore. Just let it hit us.
Okay so what Tom said when the lady even asked him about JS was that he knows Kit Harington is alive and looks around like yeah he’s here, so was that a clue that maybe Kit is still in the show but not as JS anymore? What IF he rises as somebody else? I know, we’ve been over the last name changes blah blah but I mean, as in death brings about a metamorphasis (sp) and he’s literally someone else in spirit and does not remember his old self? What kind of spirit can make the dead come back to life though? Only the Red God (if it’s Mel raising him) or the Great other (if it’s Bran/BR.) In Beric’s case he came back as himself so why wouldn’t one of the God’s do the same with Jon? Maybe cause he literally becomes Azor Ahai the legend of old.
Again…he said “kind of”. You cannot be resurrected without being dead.
Yeah … Jon will be back. They make me doubt when … Maybe in the first episode they will just find his dead body … even if they burned his body in the first episode (it’s a trick) … I think he will be back somehow. I will believe it until the season finale. I just hope Ghost doesn’t have to die to bring him back.
Agreed, there’s a book series where something akin to warging is involved and the character named Wit (I believe) was resurrected but his wolf companion had to die. George likes to make nods to other literary and historical works, so I hope this isn’t one of them but I worry that it is.
I have a theory I’ve been toying with that if Ghost were to die in resurrecting Jon, that Jon would end up warging with Nymeria. This would happen at the end of the story when Arya leaves to finish her training and truly become no one, thus leaving needle and finally even her wolf dreams behind. It would be a sad and interesting end to her arc because Jon and Arya have such a special bond. Then they could even lay needle across her or another characters tomb in Winterfell. It would all be reminiscent of how Jaqen H’gar leaves (in the books) but says that now he is dead, changes his face and disappears from Arya’s life. It’s a little crackpot, but I think it could fit.
Thank’z for your Mad but Very Interesting and Niceley Nuanced Theory ;)M&M
Good, which means Jon comes back early, very likely also in Ep1, as the last scene.
I don’t think so. I think the first episode should ends with a pyre-funeral cliffhanger scene where the fans only sees him dead and burning. And that’s would be a huge wtf!? scene for a lot of believers. In episode 2 the Wall’s story is just rest, because this episode is all about Daenerys and her power demonstration over the khalasaar wtih Drogon. And the Wall scenes will come back of the end of episode 3 where Jon will alive again. Walking out from the flames.(Olly will be the victim for him on the show) Everybody will frozed(except Melisandre of course) and Jon will take advantage of the time and he kills Alliser by revenge. After that the wildlings protect Jon and somebody tells to him that Ramsay Bolton sends a letter.
all scripted by the director and producer of got..what to say and what not to say…too frustrating
Pretty much yes. Even if they think it’s crap they can’t actually say it. Not good for their job.
So Nikolaj confirmed that season 6 will pick up right where we left off, with Jon Snow lying DEAD. What happens next may make everyone a believer in R’hllor..
We already knew the story would pick up here from the director of the first episode, but still it is reassuring to hear that. My only concern is that Nicolaj says its confirmation that he is dead. So he might not be resurrected immediately. That’s not how it went with Beric Dondarian. Of course, it’s impossible to get real information from these interviews in terms of plot line. I’m just banking on the fact that they wouldn’t have featured Jon in the first poster if he is really, truly dead. They can’t be that cruel to the fans.
Opening scene will be Jon Snow lying in the snow, picking up right at the end of Season 5. Then his eyes will turn white……
I know, I know, the show hasn’t really set it up…..but still, I’ve just got a feeling….
Exactly. and then after his eyes warg, the intro to the show comes. I have thought this too
I feel like it is a big enough scene to warrant happening before the intro haha
The first episodes always start before the intro. This is my fantasy scene. The warging. Then we see thru ghosts eyes.
Let’s just hope they bring JS back as soon as possible but I agree that ending the first show with Jon burning will be like the best revenge D&D can have on all the fans… like them saying… hahahaha he IS DEAD… but we ALL know JS HAS to be reborn because… well, because he IS Azor Ahai… he’s the only one at this point who holds ALL the characteristics of Azor AND the story is now going to have to shift its focus on the end game… too much time has been invested in everyone’s story line for the producers to introduce a new character who’s going to be Azor Ahai. So they have to choose someone who’s left in the show that everyone loves the MOST and that is JS of course. The fact that he carries all the traits of Azor Ahai only makes me believe that he is the only choice. That’s my story and Im sticking to it!!!
I still think Dany is more likely as Azor Ahai. Which has not really been mentioned in the show. Drogon can be light bringer.
Or at least the prince that was promised. I tend to confuse the two.
No surprise for me. D&D, Kit Harrington and all the others didn’t go through the trouble of reiterating time and time again that Jon Snow is dead, just to turn around have him jump up and act like nothing happened. That’s just too easy. An immediate resurrection is what other shows would do.
NCW says that it will “kind of reveal that Jon Snow is dead.” Kind of. Was that just verbal stumbling, or deliberate blurring? Yes, we all get it that he’s kind of dead, mostly dead. Doesn’t mean that he’s staying that way. That’s the question that not one of the interviewers seems able to articulate properly.
I love how Liam Cunningham genuinely seems like a kid in a candy store about all this. I could listen to him dish the craic all day.
Part of Jon Snow’s personality will most likely remain dead. What part remains to be seen. Maybe it’s only “the boy” that has been killed. Maybe it’s his humanity, his Eddard Stark-inherited sense of honor. It most likely isn’t his bravery or skill in battle judging from what is known about the Battle of the Bastards.
What would really suck is if Jon Snow or any incarnation of said character is in fact dead on the show and doesnt show up…..that would be giant middle finger to the fandom. Not saying its the most likely scenario but it could happen.
why the sh*t is the last video auto playing itself ?
Sansa doesnt deserve respect, faking a rape to seek popularity is disgusting
Cool interview. Nothing from Iwan Rheon? Want to hear about the battle.
So will Nikolaj be sanctioned for spoiling the opening scene of season 6? No, because he is lying obviously. He probably was told to say this to misdirect fans. It’s really stupid because we all know he and Maisie and whoever else are lying their asses off. Jon Snow resurrecting will be a major part of season 6 so it will be crucial to make us think he’s dead.
“…that this is the season Sansa finally gets the respect she deserves”
I think if Jon is resserected and ends up being Azor Ahai, Ghost will play the role of Nissa Nissa. It would be so dramatic and sad for those of us that love the Starks and their wolves.
It’s believed “Nissa” turns into “Mhysa” over the years. Mhysa is Daenerys.
Nooooo … I hope Melissandre sacrifices herself … with a help of Davos, maybe.
“Ep 1 opening with Jon Snow being revealed dead”?
That surprises me. I guessed that we would not go to The Wall until Ep 2. Unless Nick is teasing us with an intro as to “Just in case you forgot what happened last year.”
I think it means his dead body will be found … Jon needs to die to be reborn. I’m really curious about how and when …
Hard to watch???? I hope Ramsay, Roose, Freys and Lannisters die in a horrible way … and not another Stark.
I can not wait for season 6 trailer. Do you guys know when is it comming out? I just hope that this year they will spare us of Daenerys and her wheel. We need to see some hints of great Northern revenge! The North Remembers!
what we gonna do if he (JS) won’t come back?
i really can’t watch anymore! because i’dont wanna see any of ma favorite characters dying.
Don’t worry, he will be back … maybe not in the first episode but he will.
I honestly can’t take much more of this. The “is he, isn’t he” is getting old. Anything any of the actors say is deliberately put out there to mess with fans. Obviously they’re doing what they should be doing because we’re all talking about it. There’s been enough evidence. He’ll be back.
C’mon WiC… auto-playing videos is bad enough, but more than one on the same page? Rude.
Sophie sounds so happy about Sansa’s storyline this season that I believe she will not die in the cross … that wouldn’t have sense.
jon warging pre intro would be great, closely followed by ghost ripping olly a new hole in his gullet.
Okay guys. One autoplay video is bad enough. Does there really need to be two? Can the blog staff do something about that?
“Harington avoided reporters on the red carpet, so FORTUNATELY we don’t have video of him being forced to insist that his character is dead and that he had little to nothing to do with the show this coming season”
THERE! Corrected it! Couldn’t STAND another apologetic “Jon Snow is dead” interview!
I’ve been bouncing back n forth between an unknown, never before mentioned, identical twin brother, or Bran, not satisfied with tree root living and no legs, takes over his brothers body. I’m almost afraid to watch, though. The characters are all alive and well in my imaginary if I go no further.
Jon Snow is dead. I suppose It’s high time everyone stopped speculating about how Snow will be resurrected and start hunting down the boltons.
