The 'battle' in Breaking Dawn: possible outcomes?

I'm not sure if they would, but I wouldn't doubt it. They're both very selfish and only think about each other and not the feelings of others. Would the possibility of losing their other half forever make them go insane and kill themselves? Even if they didn't commit suicide, how long do آپ think they would grieve, and how good of a parent do آپ think they would be to Nessie during this moment of grief?
