The Korean Music Awards announced on February 23 that “Infinite, Jay Park, and HA:TFELT have won the Netizen’s Artist of the Year award for the group, male, and female categories, respectively.”

The category winners were purely decided by netizen votes, which were collected from February 3 to February 22.

The Korean Music Awards are one of the most prestigious music awards in the country, determined by a board of 67 individuals ranging from music critics, radio producers, to music show producers. Unlike many other music awards, the KMA’s do not take album sales or popularity into consideration for its main categories.

The official ceremony for the 12th Korean Music Awards will take place on February 26.

While the awards are not determined by album sales or popularity, the votes are 100% determined by netizens voting. Doesn\'t seem to make it any more prestigious than other award shows. For e.g. in the female category, besides Yeeun, the rests are nugus or non-idols... I don\'t think they have the fandom power to vote for them.

@chocolatestick that\'s only the popularity award though, which isn\'t even part of the main award show (hence the early announcement before the actual ceremony). the main awards (album of the year, artist of the year, genre album/artist of the year, etc etc) are decided by the board they have 

@cccry thanks for the info! i find some of the categories ridiculous like the female singer (voted by netizens)... they included so few nominees whereas the other categories (voted by netizens) have so many nominees.
