One Direction: ‘Babysitter’ Paul Higgins QUITS amid allegations of rows with Zayn Malik?
It’s been claimed today that One Direction head of security and tour manager Paul Higgins has quit his role with the band amid allegations that he has had a huge behind the scenes row with singer Zayn Malik.
Paul has worked with One Direction since they first began touring following their time on The X Factor in 2010, and had grown so close to the band, they called him Daddy.
However, according to the Sunday Mirror, though it’s not known what Zayn and Paul fell out about – if in fact they did at all – there is such bad feeling that Paul decided to quit.
An unnamed source told the newspaper, “There have been issues behind the scenes for a while.
“They’ve finally come to a head leading to Paul’s relationship with the band coming to an end.”
The article goes on to claim that the “issues” between Paul and Zayn may have been a factor in the singer’s recent absence during One Direction’s engagements – though Zayn claims he was suffering from stomach ‘flu – such as their live performance at Orlando.
The insider continued, “He [Paul] has always been at the heart of the One Direction team, and it’s hard to think of them going on tour without him there.”
One Direction fans had jokingly dubbed Paul the band’s “babysitter”, and though he was apparently close to all of the band’s singers, he is said to have a solid friendship with Niall Horan.
But of course, there’s no way to know if any of the above is correct, and if Paul has quit his role with One Direction, it could be for one of a million reasons, such as wanting to spend more time with his family…
On Twitter, Paul often refers to the fact that he misses his wife Clodagh, and his young son Pauly has been unwell recently, so of course, for devoted family man Paul, that’s reason enough to want to stay close to home in Ireland.
We will of course keep you posted if we hear more on this story, but for now, here’s a look at Paul with the band…

This is sign that behind the scenes, things are getting bad. Higgins has been there from the start! Maybe Zayn stayed in London because he refused Higgins’s authority.
Let’s apply a little critical thinking here: (1) We know that due to the Ebola scare, passengers that are visibly ill are being refused by the commercial airlines and that if those passengers do somehow make it to a port of entry, they risk being quarantined for a lengthy period.
(2) There is no proof — only innuendo — that Zayn wasn’t ill. So, taking 1D’s statements on this matter as true, we must conclude that regardless of his own motivations, Zayn Mallick would have been grounded until his illness passed.
(3) One of the tour manager’s main responsibilities is to anticipate and avoid confrontation. Had the tour manager been on top of his game, Zayn Mallick’s luggage would not have been stolen in Peru and the ‘drug video’ would not have surfaced. However, since it did come to light, strict rules should have been laid down vis-a-vis media interviews that would have prevented Matt Lauer from blindsiding 1D on the Today Show. Compliance with these rules wouldn’t be a problem since NBC should want to maintain its cozy relationship with 1D (there are three other national TV networks in the USA and NBc is currently in second place in the ratings). A failure in security and then mismanagement of the subsequent fallout are enough to get any senior manager in any business fired. Enough said.
