I just want people to stop using religion as an excuse to be assholes to each other.

The world wouldn't make sense without religious, as it dominates 6/7th of the Human population.

Honestly, I think both options are equally scary. I'm Agnostic but both Religion and Atheism are equal in my eyes and I cannot judge on which one should be ruled out of existence. Everyone has the right to believe in something, whether it's that God(s) do/does exist, or that one doesn't. Both have development and destruction within them, so hey how about we remember for once that we're all humans with a different type of thinking that doesn't fucking matter which belief system you belong to!

Prussisaducky: Thank you for proving my point that some religious people think they're superior and are assholes. I never once said all religious people are, but way to fit the mold! The question was to pick between no religion and religion. I picked no religion because a lot of people do terrible things in the name of it (9/11 is only an example, Holocaust is another, I'm not blaming one religion). Do people do horrible things outside of religion? Of course. But that's not the point. The poll asked for an opinion, and I gave it. You don't like it, so you're ranting about me. Grow the fuck up, and quit taking things out of context.

This is basically a question of whether you are religious or atheist, in more provocative coating. However, I think it depends on how you define religion. The Abrahamic faiths and religions of similarly dangerous messages, I believe, would best not have come into existence; but I'm not so sure about a broader range of spirituality. Especially since I am an agnostic, so I'm not exactly sure it's all rubbish.

The world is a scary place. There are people that literally see no point in life other then doing what the bible says is right. There are people that would kill their friends and family if they didn't have something to latch onto. However... what if religion didn't exist? What if the concept of a higher being was never developed? Would there be people like that? Would they find something else to latch to or would they go on and become murderers?

I'm not firmly atheist, I'm agnostic. I think of agnosticism as believing in what can be proven. If there was a god and he offered scientific evidence that he exists, I wouldn't stubbornly refuse to believe he exists, I'd have to believe in him. I think religion is a tool. It can be used for god or evil. It can be used to settle or stir up debates. Since there is not any evidence of any sort of god currently, I don't believe.

The really tricky thing is that religion is used as an excuse. For arguments, for stealing, for discrimination, for murder, for terrorism, for war. A religious person can say to a person they don't like that they're going to hell because they ran over a squirrel on the road, because they're gay, because they're not telling people how wonderful their church is every two seconds, because they did something wrong when they were a kid. I think the world would be better without that quick way out, that excuse to wrong somebody.

2) Holocaust was against an ETHNICITY not a RELIGION. They had racial tests, in which Nazi scientist took picture, measured your proportions, and other things. If you had the ideal "Jewish" look, then you were forced into Auschwitz, Bergen, and other places. If you were you had the ideal "german" look, then they had NOTHING against you.

They didn't only hate Jews, they went against Gypsies (which, when I last checked, is not a religion), blacks, ANYONE who had features that weren't "ideal".

@prussiaducky: K give me one example where I'm being racist. I've kinda been repeatedly saying I'm not. And you want another example? Slavery. Many white slave-owners specifically said that it was their "God-given responsibility" to civilize Africans in and out of America. They stood firmly on the belief that God made the white race superior. It's in about any pro-slavery text you can find. And by the way, in WW2, people didn't get off scott-free just because they looked German. If the Nazis found out you had Jewish parents, regardless if you had blond hair and blue eyes, you still went to a concentration camp. Looks just made it easier to tell most of the time. Other minorities were targeted, too, but religion still dominated Hitler's excuse. And here's a quote by Hitler himself if you don't believe me:
"Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord."

but seriously... wars and all other discrimination will continue to exist with or without religion... THANKS TO GREED and such... but with religion... we aren't just some Atoms Randomly thrown together with nothing special about us and all that we are is merely skin deep, with no deep meaning to anything we do or say for we are the byproduct of a star's little fart gone wrong...
we are too complexly created and well designed for our lives to be as worthless as science tries to coin us at times... We were created with a purpose and a reason... not at random... the deepness inside that most people can feel isn't something that science can explain, for it cannot detect something that is "unreal" to it... but for those of faith we already know what it is... It's our souls... let faith be here to give hope to the meaning of life...

Just because I'm an atheist does not mean that I want religion to disappear. I don't care who or what you believe in, it's just that I personally do not agree.

Tbh, I'm agnostic theist (but I do have a religion). We don't really need religion though.
Also, people aren't that important. Not any more important than animals. That is okay, I'm tired of people claiming they aren't animals when we clearly are (if we aren't, then wtf are we, plants? fungi? No, we're animals). Religion doesn't say anything about meaning, it just claims it knows but it doesn't mean its true.
How would a baby be born anyways? Aren't babies born as atheists because they can't comprehend what gods are, therefore, can't have a belief in a god?
