The 49-year-old actor was joined on the red carpet by director David Dobkin.

. “Nobody should make a case for somebody who just wants forgiveness but hasn’t changed, but he’s a fundamentally different guy. I think it was just the very worst aspects of somebody’s psyche being treated as though they were the blanket statement about a person. But honestly we are talking about a competitive business and it all comes down to this: because he is so gifted as a story teller and a director, I don’t know that he requires some sort of mass forgiveness.”

Robert added, “He has changed, but at the same time he’s still Mel. He and I are so similar in so many ways. He really, honestly is the first to admit his character defects and also is just a great, great collaborative guy. I always say too that if you want to judge a man or a woman then look at their kids. He has the healthiest, happiest, most productive kids you could ever meet or know, and I’m fortunate to be friendly with several of them. He did a lot right, and there’s stuff he taught me about parenting that didn’t sink in at the time but have proven to be true.”

I agree with him! There are far worse people in Hollywood. They just haven’t been caught. Casting couch directors/producers, actors et al that “like” children, druggies and more. Mel Gibson deserves a second chance.

Mel Gibson directing Iron Man 4 would be all kinds of awesomeness!!! I mean you can hate the man all you want for his views but he is a great actor and director. Come on HW let Mel direct Iron Man 4, it could be your biggest hit amongst all the other Iron Man films.

Did Mel Gibson stop to drink? Because it was when he’s drunk that he has some problems with his ex ,the police woman or Basic Instinct’s scenarist! When he’s drunk,he’s antisemitic.

Also, you gotta love Robert! He is such a stand up guy. He knows how blessed he is to have been given a second chance in HW and he has since always stood up for those who have fallen and need a hand getting up. We are all human and we all have made and will continue to make mistakes in life. The question is can you forgive others for their mistakes as you want others to forgive you for yours?? Whether the mistake is big or small we all deserve to forgive ourselves and the forgiveness of others.

Mel Gibson is finished and rightfully so. Robert Downey Jr will soon be finished too if he keeps pushing this garbage.

Fact is no one is perfect. Most if not all these celebs have their own issues & scandals. Some are better at hiding them. Mel Gibson didn’t hurt anyone, didn’t cheat or brake up a family, didn’t do anything criminal. He got drunk & said some awful things.. get over it already. Bring this man back to directing, he is phenomenal!

I want Mel Gibson directing as well! It’s so juvenile for Hollywood to keep blacklisting him when those execs. have done far worse. Downey should just produce the flick and sign Gibson anyways! He’s got the money and star power to help.
