Would آپ still be دوستوں with someone آپ liked but they didn't like آپ back?

It's for a story I'm writing, and I don't know how the reaction would be. Scenario: Guy and girl are friends, the guy kisses the girl, but she doesn't feel the same about him.
Would it be reasonable/fair for the guy to continue to be just دوستوں with her? (And later تاریخ a friend of hers?) I've never been in a situation like this, so I don't know how someone would react. Your opinion would be appreciated; thanks! :]
